Default Orsson's Training Lab

Hey y'all!
Took two weeks off after the competition to recover and then got very sick the day after I got back into the gym, so I'm just now getting back into the routine. I'm starting the block program that Matt Vincent lays out in his Training Lab book for highland game athletes. I won't be competing this year at all, but I'd like to start getting involved with games in 2015. Anyway, got in on Tuesday and yesterday and here's the breakdown:

3-25: Squat
1x10 bar
1x10 95
1x10 135
7x10 185

Snatch
3x5 95

Good Mornings
3x10 95

3-27: Bench
1x10 bar
1x10 95
8x10 135

Dips
1x10
1x8
1x5

Kroc Rows
3x10 40

The first ten weeks are high volume. Four weeks on and a deload week, rinse, repeat. High volume sets are performed at 50% max at the beginning up to 65% at week 8. I'm throwing in some sprints after each workout because I don't have a prowler at the moment. Fun stuff, even if high volume does suck. I'm just glad to be back in the gym.

I wish. Did a powerlifting competition a few weeks ago, went well, and now I'm taking my training in a slightly different direction.

Got in with Irish today for some pulling. High volume is fun but taxing. Anyway, here's how it went:

3-29 Deadlift

1x10 bar
2x10 135
2x10 185
6x10 225

Kettlebell cleans
3x5 each side @ 16kg.

DB Curls
1x8 35#
1x8 30#
3x5 25#

Rope pushdowns
1x8 45
1x8 55
1x8 72

Rope curls

1x8 35
1x8 45
1x8 55

Feeling like jelly after all those pulls, but a good day nonetheless. Was supposed to do goodmornings as well, but my hamstrings couldn't do it.

Already tired of working this week. Got in yesterday to help Irish break in his bench shirt and to do some pressing. Thank the gods that the weather has finally started to turn...it's almost tank top weather! Anyway, here's the skinny:

4-1 OHP
1x10 bar
2x10 75
7x10 95

Pulldowns:
3x10 100

Kroc Rows:
1x10 45
1x10 50
1x10 55

Curls:
1x10 50
1x10 70

Sprints:
10x25 meters

My lower back is still blasted by those deadlifts so I subbed pulldowns for pullups (lol). I've been using the fat gripz I got for all my pressing and I'm loving it. No elbow pain while lifting at all. The sprints went surprisingly well considering I've done next to no conditioning over the last year. Nice and warm out, I think I've got a bit of a sunburn. It's gonna be a good summer.

Deadlifts were last night, and I hadn't eaten all day. Didn't really think about it till I got to the gym. Things went to shit and my right knee was feeling weird the whole time I was lifting. Skipped accessories and just came home to eat. I'll do the extra assistance stuff tonight after OHP.

Dead 4-6
2x10 135
2x10 185
6x10 225

Weigh in: 258
Didn't weigh out

Really took the piss out of me, had to strap up for the last set. Good lifting regardless. Pressing will go great tonight, kung fu after, and then a few well earned days off. Gods, I just want to sleep.
