Today i began my official training towards powerlifting. This christmas ruined me in terms of food and rest. I must have been eating half of my calories (if not less) about 1200 cals to 1700 which is nothing and i have my sleeping scheudule upside down. But still, day one of this 4 week cycle that focuses on technique rather than strength.

I stepped into the gym a little bit cokcy and skeptical of this workout, since i was reducing my work weights a lot, but i soon realised how "hard" it can be higher volume training.

The squats. My brilliant train of thought was: "Hey, i'm reducing 20 kilos on my work weight, so lets jump right in and squat this". After a 5 day break from the weights? Not a good idea. I barely hit accepted depth and 100 kilos (220 lbs) felt like 300. What happened next? I had to reduce the weights to 90-95 kg so i could perform the training properly.

1x5 - 100 kg

1x5 - 100 kg (right knee made a poping sound and hurt, poor warm up leads to injury, thank god the weight was light, so no injury there)

1x5 - 95 kg

1x5 - 95 kg

1x5 - 90 kg (attemped 100 again, my knee gave in again)

Bench press. Even though i was weak and 80 kg seemed like a ton, i managed to perform the BP with perfect form.

5x5 - 80 kg

Auxiliary work:

Overhead Press: Where things started to get tricky. I never did OHP on a bench day, so i had no idea how fatigued my muscles already where. Only when i started warming up i realised i probably use a lot of the same muscles (inexperience talking).

Had to reduce the weight to 50 kg (but still, perfect form, no harm done. Could have gone higher, but since this 4 weeks are to focus on my weaknesses i didn't mind the lighter weight)

5x5 - 50 kg

Seated Calf raises: Meh...

3x 10 - 50 kg

Close grip bench press: Never did this one before and i loved it. My body was pretty tired at this point but as always, focusing on perfect form. I did them explosive but under control.

3x10 - 40 kg

No video yet guys, i'm not at home.

So that's it. Day one of my Powerlifting Journey. Hope you guys enjoy the reading.

Keep on lifting!

Form looks good. Just make sure you start each rep with your head more neutral and not looking down. That head down position will push your weight more forward placing more strain on yoru lower back.
