Default I want to be strong like bear!

I am beginning 5x5 tomorrow.

I have messed about with weights for the last ten years, mainly for rugby training and general strength.

I have never properly followed a routine but since leaving the Army I have decided now that I have the time and facilities I will train for and enter a powerlifting competition.

Currently my max are:

Squat 190kg
Bench 140kg
Deadlift 225kg

Bodyweight 110kg
Height 5'8

I have a good 21kg to lose and along with a stricter diet I plan to add some Sprints and rugby training as cardio with the occasional long run, all to aid with losing my guuuuuuuuuuut.

I'm looking forward to starting this and seeing how strong I can get.

I will get some pics up to help track progress.

Any advice/tips greatly appreciated.

Default Day 1

1st session down

Started on

body weight 110kg

Squat 120kg
Bench 100kg
Row 60kg

Frustration at my gym as there is only 1 oly bar and squat cage so it's the usual waiting for the guys with gloves, straps, belts on to do their curls...

Serves me right for only paying 15 a month but it is open 24 hrs a day and just round the corner from the flat, will have to choose my training times so I am not waiting around.

I often want to grab them and tell them stop trying to squat with the bar on your neck!

Nothing more annoying, I lurk on the treadmill till its free then set myself up and don't let anyone on till I have completed, bit of a dick move but no one has asked to work in yet. I guess proper squats and deadlift scare them haha

Second day

Squat 122.5kg
OHP 60kg
Deadlift 160kg

Easy day, I love deadlift. I downloaded the 5x5 app it is pretty useful, has anyone one else got it?

Did some cardio, pull ups and dumbbell stuff yesterday to keep me loose nothing heavy just beach weights haha.

I am aiming for around 2500cal a day 5 meals of 500 (I love multiples of 5) Mainly meat and salad, avoiding carbs as much as possible and a butt load of water. I am taking creatine and fish oil as well.

I have asked if they are going to get another squat rack but the staff said they don't have them because they take up space and they are the bits of equipment that people injure themselves the most on!

Smashed through today

125 Squat

62.5 Bent row

My legs are feeling tight!!!! Climbed up a tower about 100 steps my legs were shaking and spasming at the end, ouch.

I love the burn though lets me know it is working.
