Ironman Meet Training
*
Bench Press Paused
135x 5
*
185x 3
185x 3
185x 1-1 ...vid. This was practicing different foot positions and seeing if I could increase my arch and decrease my ROM and possibly get some leg drive.
Not sure either one made much of a difference on arch or ROM, but seemed with my feet back much more and on my toes I felt some leg drive. Guess I'll wait for some opinions !
*
Done! 15 minutes. I had No sleep last night and wasn't even going to attempt to lift. My kids still got a cold and was up all night, so I was up to. Managed a 45 minute nap and decided I'd at least get a little work in and figured it'd be a good day to mess with my set up. After my nap my head was crap, but since I wasn't planning on getting much accomplished I figured screw it!

Solid work getting in there and practicing your setup. As a powerlifter you don't have to get stronger everyday, you just have to get better. As you know technique is huge, and getting in there and practicing that is just as important as working the muscles. Did you feel tight on these, how did you feel about your arch? One difference that I noticed between yours and my setup is that, you are setting your anchor point at the shoulders and pushing tension back into them to create an arch, there is nothing wrong with that. I have recently had good success using my butt as my anchor and loading the tension into my arch in the opposite direction toward my feet. Maybe just try it once and see if it helps you get more arch. Wearing my belt during the bench has helped me out too.

P.S. Subbed to see you kill it in ur new log!

That second attempt looked much better! I saw leg drive too. How did it feel? I think you are on the right track.

Thanks Randy! Yea I felt tight, not the greatest but I'm so tired ! Think after watching it a few times that the second one with my feet back is the way to go. Actually think I reduced the ROM an inch or so. I tried your way a few months ago and couldn't keep my ass planted, it would slide and I'd have almost no arch. Digging my traps in seems to work best for me !

I like the bench video. I'm always messing with my set up as well, it's tough to get that leg drive. Good to see you working on that.

Nice to see you getting some practice in Jay. It took me a good 8 months or so to figure out what works for me. LtL once told me to try a wider stance with feet as it provides for more stability and seems to make me feel more powerful. Once you begin to create that arch feet must stay planted! Squeeze butt hard and have a deathgrip on the bar, which helps to retain tightness. With that said, it is fidfficult to retain 100% tightness when no spotter is available. You will lose some without. Getting tight is one thing, retaining tightness is another. It takes a while to figure it out for sure, but persistence will pay off. You know you have lost tightness when your ROM has increased an inch or more, which is huge. The Crew always kept an eye on my lats and they could spot an issue right away. They also said I shook alot less when tight haha.It is more difficult to spot issues on vids tho.

And of course you know your on the right track when your as uncomfortable as hell and your back has worse DOMS than your chest and tri's.
