I think it's time to abandon chains for some time and start working with straight wts ... What I understand from your vids of competition is that your body refuses to go down because the wt. was not getting reduced as with the chains. Almost all of your pre-comp. sessions were done with chains ...

But this is just my opinion ... I'm not at all qualified to comment on the working of a person like you ...

keep motivating us BTB ...

I agree with Ravi. Chains give a different feel to the lift. Practise how you play.

I hear ya on this one Steve - this is why I had to try a 405 squat on Sunday - I needed it back to help fuel my rep work.

Nice work getting your head back in the game.

It makes alot of sense what Ravi said as well. The chains are a tool that I reckon need to be amaged carefully like everything else in our training.

Thanks Ravi, but that wasn't the issue.

I was severely dehydrated the weekend prior, and still hadn't recovered.

Prior to that lift I was extremely light-headed, and 315 felt heavy during my warmup.

It wasn't a chains issue. I wasn't feeling well at all.

Regarding chains.

1) They have allowed me to bust my bench press and deadlift through the roof. My bench and deadlift numbers have never moved faster.
2) I have made nothing but progress using them on squats. I need to overload the top and get used to more weight on my back, especially during walkouts.

I appreciate everyone's feedback, but they are working for me.

What happened this weekend was illness related. It was not due to a training deficiency.

Nothing like a bit of conditioning, especially for super big fellas like yourself. Rather than hurt your lifting, it will likely improve it and I know you'll be sensible while doing it. I personally tried a 12kg weighted vest last week for the first time, very tough! Mind you, I have no hills anywhere in my vicinity so it's a substitution.

Anyways, best of luck on this and I wish you success.

Good to see you back at it Steve.

I will be following along and absorbing all the info I possibly can.

I could barely budge 405# yesterday after hitting the long term 405# x 3 goal just a couple of weeks ago. I just didn't have it in me at all. But, I learned a good lesson from it.

Do you have a meet in mind for your return?

I am going to do the UPA November meet, and then Relentless Minnesota in February.

Glad to have you following. Hope to see you hit 450 dead soon.
