Despite your feeling of floundering, you did some great work, that was my heart point in my previous post. I am glad you found your niche.

I am curious for insight from both you and Ramrod as to how you are cubing 5/3/1.
I think we were in the same place. That is exactly how I felt. Everything is starting to fall into place for me, training especially. Right now, besides my wife and son, it is the only thing that keeps/makes me happy. Without it I was totally lost. I think getting back to something familiar rekindled my passion for lifting. 5/3/1 got me started so why not get back to it.

The way I have "Cubed" 5/3/1 is just by taking stuff that I liked from the Kingpin training and incorporating it into 5/3/1. I really like block pulls so I took Wendlers Joker Sets and used those for the block pulls. I also like some volume so again I took Wendlers First Set Last and used it for Close Grip Bench and deficit pulls. I also thought that the Farmers Walk with my trap bar has its benefits so I kept that too. Also, I'm just keeping it simple this time around. No more accessory overkill. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Thanks Bama!

3/8/2014

3/5/1 Powerlifting Cycle 1

Squat
95x5
125x5
155x3

Working
175x3
205x3
225x20--big time PR!

First Set Last
185x10
175x10

Front Squats
135x2x5

Banded Leg Curls (ss w/ all Squat sets)
Black EFS band--100 reps
Red EFS band--125 reps

Back Raises
BW +25lbsx2x10

TB Walk
225x3x40yds

DONE

That was a helluva squat session. I have never hit 225x20 before EVER! Holy crap! I'm just absolutely amazed that I was able to get it. I had no problems with form at all. I was able to stay tight for almost the entire set. Lower back felt good/strong. The rest of the squats were easy peasy after that.

I am so glad to be back on 5/3/1. I'm just going to continue to kill these rep PRs and get strong(er).

My 2 cents worth is it is likely prudent to take an extra recovery day or 2 after a heavy 20 repper, as they take more out of you thaan you think. Really awesome work DZ - ass 225 is very close to my most recent 20 repper.

Glad to are back on a routine you can live with.

Good call man! Picking a program that you enjoy is a key to sucess if you dont have a coach yelling at you 24/7 :-D

Recovery days are in progress. Foodz/protonz have been destroyed. Should be good to go for Deathlift Thursday.
