Default IceCreamFitness Novice 5x5 Journey

I started a new full-body split today designed by Jason Blaha of IceCreamFitness on YouTube.

It alternates between two days, A and B, so a two-week schedule would look like

Squat 5x5
Bench Press 5x5
Barbell Row 5x5
Barbell Shrug 3x8
Skullcrusher 3x8
Chins 3x5-8
or Striaght Bar/Incline Curl 3x8
Hyperextention 2x10
Kneeling Cable Crunch 3x10-20

Day B:
Squat 5x5
Deadlift 1x5
Standing Press 5x5
Barbell Row 5x5 -10%
CGBP 3x8
Straight Bar or Incline Curl 3x8

Default 06/10/2013

A

Squat 225 5x5

Bench 190 5x5

Barbell Row 205 5x5

Barbell Shrug 295 3x8

Skullcrusher 80 3x8

Chins 1x8, 2x5

Weighted Hyperextensions 45 2x10

Ab Wheel Roll-Outs 1x15, 2x10

Tried low-bar for the squats, I liked it, so I'll continue with it. Bench felt strong, rows were tough. First day of this full-body routine left me exhausted. I'll get used to it.

Smash it, mhurley.

Looks like a lot of hard work, but that's the general idea IMO, so... go for it!

Great work!

That's some big rows. You row more than you bench? Just curious, takes all kinds in this world. Haha, maybe if I rowed more than I benched, I'd have a decent deadlift!

Rock on.

I've been following Jason's program since January and it's been going really well. My squat is around 240lbs (I actually did 255 yesterday with a spotter), my deadlift is at 345lbs, rows are 155lbs and OHP at 115lbs. My bench however is what is lacking at 170lbs on a good day. 160-165lbs is a truer reflection. I've decided to tweak things slightly going forward as it relates to the benchpress as I think this is an area I really need to improve in.

Stick with it. You'll see great gains. I know I have. Down the line you'll start seeing where any weakpoints in your training are. Remember, workouts are a template. As you progress your specific needs change and so to should your approach to training.

I've been doing Pendlay Rows where I rip the bar to my chest from a dead stop on the ground, so there may have been some leg drive in my explosiveness.
