Mike,

Listen up Bud.

I was overweight and in terrible shape...everybody and their brother told me I needed to lose weight, but I did not listen,...heartattacks only happen to other people....THEN, one day I had a mini Stroke while at work...Doc told me I was very lucky...he told me if I have another one, better hope I die, or I will become nothing but a HUGE burden to my family, since they will have to feed me, and change my diapers for the next 20 - 25 years....THAT is a wakeup call.....

Get your shit together my friend, you have a family who needs you to stick around for a long, long time....Dont push your luck, you might not be as "lucky" as I was....

Fast foward 20 months...lost 100+ pounds, discovered the iron.....I truly am in the best shape of my life....looking back, I now know how fortunate I was not to die that day.....DO NOT put yourself in that position.

Sometimes a good scare is just what we need to wake us up to what is important in our lives. Who cares WHEN you hit a 400 squat? As long as you eventually get it, it doesn't matter how long it takes. Strength at all costs is just stupid, we are more than just a bag of muscles. Get your diet sorted out and pull the shat out of that sled

OR raises a good point. My Epiphany of sorts was on my 40th birthday. It has taken me 9 years to get the health I enjoy today. I realized I sacrificed strength, but at our age especially, overall health has to be the priority.

The icing on the cake for me that made it all worthwhile was when the specialist told me last summer I have the internal cellular health and structure of a 25 year old!! It can be done Mike!!

Glad you're ok Mike. My wife gets acid reflux big time and it scares me sometimes.

Can't add much more than has already been said, no doubt numbers will fall in time but health is key mate, especially since you have two young kids,

Mike, I'll echo the comments from Moe, OR and others. Chasing strength is seductive, and makes it easy to forget about more fundamental things like health.

I've recently dropped a little bit of fat, changed my diet and added a little cardio. These modest changes have already had a substantial effect on how I feel. I recommend it as a transformative experience.Everyday walking feels... different, and in a good way. Even though my weight hasn't dropped, I feel about 20 pounds lighter. I've discovered that strength-training, at least how I do it, just doesn't do much for my CV fitness.

Acid reflux can be a bitch, and it needs to be controlled as much as possible from the point of view of risk to the oesophagus. Mrs T had to have a Nissen fundoplication (sp?) to control hers, but antacids and diet control do wonders for many.

I hope you get a good diet plan sorted. Best of luck with it and keep us posted with your progress on that as well as your weightlifting numbers.

I really appreciate everything everyone has said and thank you. It was scary, but once they told me it was probably acid reflux coupled with an anxiety/panic attack I worked myself into, I felt a little silly to be honest. I might not even have acid reflux either as I've never had anything like that before. We'll see. I am taking it seriously, though! When words like stroke and heart attack get thrown around in a hospital room, well let's just say that's not pleasant, even if they are being ruled out. (This time at least.)

As people have pointed out diet and better decisions overall will probably get things under control. I won't be seeing the nutrionist again though. That's not covered by insurance and is too expensive to follow up with (that's America folks! Nothing preventative is covered, but a heart attack? fully covered. ), but she gave me some good ideas to work with so we'll see how it goes. I already feel better just eating better for a week, so I got back to business today.

Haha. Really didn't help that it was squats where I had my problem! I already have a little mental block with them and have been a little leery of getting back under the bar, but today went pretty well considering.

I've decided to drop the old school linear for now and go back to fullbody which is when I felt the healthiest and most fit. Also, I don't think I ever gave the rep goal scheme a fair shake, so I'm going to give that a shot and see what happens over the next month or so.

SUpposed to be easing into it this week, but started squats maybe a bit too high and CGBP and Sumo maybe a bit too low. Still, it'll shake out well enough as I go along.

Day 1, week 1:

warmups: hip and leg stuff and lower mobility, JR, and some height jumps from squat position

Squat:
315x 1 (confidence booster)
245x 8, 6, 5 (goal 20, stay here, maybe even drop it a little)

CGBP:
185x 11, 9, 9 (goal 20, add weight)

Sumo:
205x 8, 8, 6 (goal 20, add weight)

Plank: 65 sec.

Some fullbody stretching and that was it for today. I'll get the sled out next week OR! Got a plan for that for sure.

315:
245x 8:
185x 11, damn kids! :
185x 9, great song, so I rushed last set, wanted 30. Bitter.
205x 8, camera cut out:

Felt good to get back at it and the tunes were awesome today! That helped.

Decent session. Onward and upward.

A couple questions for you guys who have done the MAB fullbody.

Do you use a belt on the squat rep goal sets? I could have made all the reps easy if I used a belt, but not sure I want to. Thoughts on that will be appreciated.

Also it says on deadlifts to ramp three sets in order to hit 8 reps. How does that work? Would it be a problem if I just kept the sets as a 20 rep goal? I have been liking volume on deads recently. What do you think?

Thanks fellas! Back in business. Let's hope it stays that way.

Mike, I once did "Timed Deads" I set a timer for 10 minutes, then did as many singles as I could in 10 minutes. When I hit the rep goal of 15 reps in 10 minutes, I added weight. I really liked that set up.

I should add, I only did this once a week.
