This is something I'm trying to fix, I struggle to even get my right shoulder into position for benching so I've been doing soft tissue work at every opportunity as horrible as it is and then finishing up with the SuperD holds. It's really starting to help so I'd definitely recommend it.

I had a similar realisation last week with strict press, I've only been push pressing this year and threw 60kg(132) on to strict press. Thought it would be easy for 4's and barely scraped through 2 sets.

Still quality work Mike.

Thanks fellas! Haha. Different rules for us masters, that's a good one need to remember that!
OMP, I do need to remember to not miss the forest for the trees for sure.
OR, you're probably right. I benched quite a bit when younger. Did focus on OHP for a while, but that wasn't until in my 40s.

JT, it was your log that made me realize I might be misdiagnosing my shoulder problem. I had an impingement a few years ago in that shoulder and assumed all it's current problems stemmed from that, and my preventative stuff is for strengthening around that particular tendon. However, that problem hurt. What's happening now is more like my shoulder just "gives out". Doesn't really hurt, just loses strength. And 9 times out of 10, I can just massage it some and do the next set with no problem. Makes me think it is actually poping out a little, and needs to be set in the socket better.

Haha. Long story later. I'm going to try some different shoulder stuff and see if that fixes it! Thanks.

Good day today. A little tough with the assistance, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Week 4

warmups: Swings, hamstring stuff, back raises
Dynamic: P. Cleans to 165, 3x 2x 145

Deadlift:
1x 330
2x 8x 265 (last rep in each set was a bit sketchy, but form getting more consistent)

Plank:
2x 1 min, then 50 seconds.

1.5 inch Deficits, these were supposed to be a heavy double, then 10% off for 4x 4:
315x 0 (could have dragged it up, but was using back, so dropped it)
1x 295 (didn't try second rep, first one wasn't that good anyway)
2x 285 (finally a decent double to work with)
2x 255 (should have been 4 )
245x 4, 2, 2 (was heading downhill fast)

Squat:
2x 10x 210

Skipped Bulgarians and leg curls. Just some stretching and back yoga.
Skipped Farmers too as had to cut grass. Figured pushing a mower for 70 min over an acre with hills was good enough conditioning for today!

So, I'm a little torn on the deficits. I think they would help me, but getting down to the bar seems to pull me into rounding my back and using low back to start the lift. I could drop the weight way back in work these up, or I could just do low pin pulls or stiff leg deads instead. Obviously I suck at them, so that alone tells me I probably should do them. Not sure which way to go on this one.

Man really wish I'd have had the camera today as looking at some video might tell you guys what my problem is and what to do. But wife had it in her purse when she left for work, so no video today.

ANyway, enough rambling. I'll do them again in the rotation and video then and see where I'm at.

Onward and upward. I'm feeling good about where my deadlift is heading. That's the main thing.

just a comment...

my shoulder pain is often tight pecs (puling the shoulder out of line)

also, arm weakness can be from the scalenes and SCMs (in the neck) compressing the nerve bundle that controls the upper body...

Mike, I have trouble with the deficit deads also with my lower back arthritis. Of course, at one point I almost gave up on Squats for the same reason, but, through research, experimentation, and good coaching, I have remidied the squat issue....now the deficit issue. I have not found the answer...YET.... but I will.

Point being, as mentioned lately, "Old Geezer Rules" come into play here. Fine a way to do the safely, or do something else. I look at it as 20+ years more for me to get things right, no need to hurry!

The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.
