Monday, 4-29-13
Week 3, Day 2

Squats:
45 x 6
135 x 6
165 x 6
187.5 x 6
187.5 x 6
187.5 x 6

Squats were great again tonight, I used the wide stance, which I am liking because it does not bother my hip arthitis at all...which is SUPER COOL!!!! anyone who has followed my logs knows that this was becoming a real problem with my squatting in the reg width stance...I just have to work on range of motion to get low enough. W/O partnes says I am just about at parrallel now, so need to get a lilttle lower just to be sure. I am not 100% sure, but this might be the most I have squatted for reps...if not the most, than the most in a long time!!

Next on the program was leg presses, but since I am in my garage with no leg press, I did what W/O partner and I call 1/2 squats (Probably not the correct name) we load the bar on the safety racks at the bottom of the lift, get under it and explode up, back down and rest the bar on the safety rack again. Then repeat. Looking back, probably not the right substitute. Anyway:

45 x 6
95 x 6
115 x 15
125 x 11
125 x 8
175 x 3

I stopped when form was looking more like a good morning than a squat. Looking back, I should have lowered the weight and gotten more correct reps, than raise the weight and get fewer reps. So I was pissed at myself and did a regular 20 rep with 135.

SLDL:

45 x 8
85 x 6
105 x 8
105 x 8
105 x 8
105 x 8

I have done these in the past and did not do very well. I kept the weight light and went for the hammy stretch like BIG said to do, and they worked much better.

Even though it mightnot appear like a lot on the surface, that was easily the most squats I ever did in 1 session..I was WHIPPED OUT, I was in bed at about 8:30

cant wait for Wednesday!!

Great workout Marvin! I just switched to wide squats too, whole new ball game(well at least for me)! Do you have a leg extension? That would be a better substitute for leg press as it focuses on the quads(depending where you put your feet, but that's the goal in the routine I believe). I don't think half squats are a good idea, I've seen btb talk about it a lot on how it puts too much strain and pressure on your knees. Anyhow, enough of my babbling, keep smashing bud!!!

I think I gotcha on those squats - you are essentially doing a paused squat skipping the eccentric motion. Maybe call it a Pin Squat?

I am also glad to hear you may have found an ideal stance for yourself. I hope you can manage to squeeze out some more depth with it.

I must have misinterpreted what you wrote Marvin, my bad... What you did wasn't half squats, and how you did those I don't think will wreck your knees. There still might be a better substitute though. Leg extensions, front squats....I'm sure JB can give you a good replacement based on what you have available.

I think they work, its called an anderson squat? something like that. Never done them personally, but I could see how they would work. I think Hunter has the right idea. Rather than leg press, front squats would work great.
