I'm not 100% sure stronger lats are necessarily the answer for benching as much as bigger lats are. I think having a nice wide platform to press off is more important than brute upper back strength. Just my theory though and more upper back strength is never a bad thing obviously

Good point man. I'm looking forward to seeing if getting my usual mass and strength back there gives me a much bigger press.

tested the waters tonight on bench press. Not a great day to try due to a busy day with literally no food before the session but if it's anything to go by I have improved and will have my goal soon.
Paused bench press
60kg 5
100kg 5
120kg 3
140kg 1 ( felt like 100, just flew up)
160kg 1
172kg f ( just barely, my spotter had to give me a little touch to get it moving again a few inches off the chest then I locked it out myself at ease. Just missing that little bit of strength in the lower middle phase, felt easy at lockout despite moving slow due to the stall) Spotter pointed out to me I'd likely have gotten 170 but if I was going for it I might as well go for it.

paused bench
120kg 5, 10 sec break 1, 10 sec 1, 10sec 1
120kg 5, 10 sec break 1, 10 sec 1, 10sec 1
120kg 5, 10 sec break 1, 10 sec 1, 10sec 1
easy. Especially considering all the max work. up to 125 for 3 sets of 5 plus 3 singles next week.

paused slingshot bench
150kg 5
150kg 5
not bad. Lockouts were easy, middle part was hard enough.

Strong benching. Any videos? I'd be very interested to see the 172. If you're missing that low you could just be losing a bit of tightness at the bottom...

Cheers man! I forgot my camera but a guy in the gym recorded it on his phone so I could see it myself after. I'll try to get a bench vid next time I try it. That is a possibility man. The last we'll say 3 fifths of the lift are easy enough it's the 2 fifths point that got me. Fast of the chest, fast lockout, poor in between. I'll get it soon. Just need to nail that point. Any ideas?
