Wednesday

Went to the gym earlier than usual today (we've just started Summer hols). Felt tired and muzzy-headed. Also, I had to train in my thick winter track suit bottoms and a T shirt because I'd forgotten my kit.

Started off well with bench 120 (265) X 11, but by the time I'd got to 100 (221) in third set I'd run out of steam, only getting 12 reps. Same story for pull-ups. I had no strength left after the fast sets of back and was feeling vomititious, so did a few sets of curls and went home.

Bench Press

Thursday

Well, I'm driving down to Germany tomorrow. It would make no sort of sense to do something that's going to leave me with extreme DOMS; after 600 miles immobile in the car I would have rigor mortis by the time I got out.

So that's exactly what I did. Two extreme sets of lower body.

Deadlifts felt good. I had some back pain this morning and weirdly, deadlifts often sorts this out (whereas squats and OHP exacerbate it). 230 was a breeze, so I went for 250. This is the most I've done for well over a year and I felt like I had a bit more in the tank. Then I really went for it on a deload set. 182.5 (403) X 12 is a new PR. Followed by me gasping like a stranded fish for five minutes.

Leg press: I just wanted to do one intense set. So on the man set I did 2-3 second negatives and paused at the bottom, then avoided lockout at the top to maintain tension. Went to more-or-less failure at twelve, paused for fifteen seconds, did another four, paused again, did another three and so on for a total of 22 reps.

I took the camera to record the PR attempt, but found my other half had filled the memory with pictures of a birthday cake she'd made
