Holy Moly! That agility stuff made me tired and sore just reading it!

Nice reppage with 125 overhead. That's pretty impressive.

Good stuff OR!

Fisrt of all, thanks to all you MABbers for all the support. This place is awesome and it means a lot to a guy that trains pretty much alone in his garage.

Today is my "off day" or "rest day" and I've been doing a little thinking. I thought I'd write a few of the things that are rattling around in my head. It's so easy to get dogmatic and stuck in a rut with your own training. Sure, it's easy to help others break a stall or get started gaining again. But getting your own butt to break out of the doldrums is another thing all-together.

Looking back through my training, the only consistent gains I've seen lately is in my squat. They aren't super fast gains or anything, but the consistent growth has been there. I finally attributed this to the fact that I'm kind of all over the place with them. I do 5/3/1 for a while and hit a PR, then I take a break and do 20 reppers for a while, then back to 5/3/1, then on to 3 sets of 10, and on it goes. But I always seem to return to moderate reps and post up a new personal best.

Contrast that to my other lifts and you will see that nothing ever really changes for bench, rows, press, etc. A few hard sets of moderate reps, because that's what gave me the gains to start with and I know that's what's supposed to work, right?

So that's why I started this new journal, to try something completely different. I wanted to keep the basic principals but train with some high reps. I wanted to force my body to become conditioned and not become complacent. And then when a lift feels ready, drop the reps and grab that new PR.

Time will tell how it's all going to work but I can tell you that I do feel completely revitalized with my training. As an added benefit, I am growing again and needing some new dress shirts and a new blazer.

A very smart man once told me to build the foundation with a good routine, then specialize, then keep returning to your foundation to broaden the base. I guess I am finally listening. . .

Sorry for the ramble

Ramble on OR

I'm basically following your lead here in what I am doing these days and I will also sneak in under the radar one day and snag a PR. I'm enjoying the hunt too much now to go for the kill anyway.

Thanks Cutty. The wisdom has been there, implementing it is another thing all-together.

Thanks dossas. Even though we may use different tools, I think we have very similar goals. And training our kids, what could be better than that. I will continue to enjoy your journal as well.
