03/03/12

Football Training

We did some basic tackling drills
Footwork drills based on staying low, choppy steps and explosive starts
Handwork drills - spin and bullrush
Scrimmaging against the offense - so much fun and I'm pretty sure the D "won"

I'm exhausted and bruised up!

Back in the gym yesterday, feeling sore and bruised...

Bench Press (ME Mondays)
20+40 chains x5

125+40 chains x1

Nothing spectacular, but happy to hit that final single with a total of 165kg weight on the bar, plus a good deal of sets beforehand.

Close-Grip Bench Press

Paused Incline DB Press

Yeah, it took forever to set this up as I was working out how to wrap the bands around the DBs. In the end I just set up with the band underneath the bench and in my hands then had someone pass me the dumbbells. Started with 26kg DBs thinking I could incline press a lot more than that so it should be okay even with the bands. Nope.

Explosive Band Press
Red band x20x5 sets - 30 seconds rest

Quick pump exercise working on explosion off my chest for football. Wrapped the bar around a post in the gym and pressed it like a bench press. This was awesome and it HURT.

Nice work big man. For dumbell pressing just use one band and loop it under your upper back and into the hands.
