Thanks.

Weird day today. I got rear-ended while driving back to work after lunch. My car looks like nothing touched it (thank you modern technology), but my head and my neck are killing me. I was on post, so the MP's and EMS personell were all very helpful and nice. The medics took my vitals and said they were good, and all I have is a headache so I decided against going to the ER.

After that I went to work, told them what happened, then headed home for the day to recover. This, along with some other things I have going on, make this not a good day to under-eat.

It's just a weird, tough day.

Tomorrow I get to press some weight. Sometimes when I'm moving iron is the only time that things really make sense.

Decided to give a little block periodization a go. I'm going to toss out the speed work and just go all out with maximal strength. I will, however, do one upper body day a week with more volume and less intensity. That day was today.

Bench press, TnG-
1st goal; work up to a max set of 10.
45x10
135x10
165x10
185x10
205x10
225x10 (barely got this one, so I stuck with this. I'll continue to use this weight until I can do it 12 times, then I'll go up.)
2nd goal; take weight from max set of 10 and do 10 sets of 5
(Originally it was 10 sets of 8. WAY to ambitious)
225x5x10
Goal achieved.

Single arm landmine overhead press-
30x8x5

Mid grip bench press with slingshot-
245x8
245x8
245x8
225x8
225x8

It's been a while since I've done legitimate higher rep sets. It was so different from what I've become accustomed to! I'm used to getting everything super tight and doing my 1-3 reps, but when you have to get through 5-10 reps you just can't keep everything as tight. Instead of worrying about my form, I just got the work done. Because I didn't stay as tight or keep as much of an arch, the bench presses today absolutely nailed my chest. Big time pump going on.

I've taken out all direct upper back work on saturday because I believe that it's hurting my deadlift session on Sunday. I'll still do upper back work on Tuesday.

Tomorrow will be a deadlift and squat session, with a focus on Deadlift. It's going to be intense. I can't wait!

I've been quiet in here for a couple days because I've been continuing to evaluate my training plan. I've been getting more and more into eastern bloc training. There's gotta be something to it. So I'm going to give Sheiko a run. I'm going to run the plan as close to written as possible, and I'm going to put off getting any gear at this point and continue to train raw.

I'll have to replace a few movements, like dips, but that's no big deal.

I have a spreadsheet that automatically calculates my lifts, which is quite convenient.

I'm also going to have my wife try Sheiko 29 when she gets back from Fl next week, but she probably won't like the volume and time it takes.

So it's on tonight. I'm going to buy into this program, and the fact that it's different every week. Hopefully the fact that it's cumulative over the different weeks will force me to stick with it for the long term. This is the time, and I believe that this is the program. I'm taking this to the next level.

Thanks J!

So I just bought myself a little birthday present. Like I said, I'm going to do Sheiko raw, BUT I just ordered a used Titan super katana on Ebay, size 46. I'll probably start working geared bench into my "extra" 4th training day, to start to get a feel for it once it arrives. To say I'm excited would be a massive understatement. I'm excited about my program, and I'm crazy excited about putting on a real bench shirt and seeing what I can do once I get into a groove with it.

I train alone, but if I do geared work on the weekend my wife is usually around, so I know I won't get stuck in the stupid thing, lol.

Sheiko 30, day one, obliterated. I'm interested to see how this program develops, because I found today to be easy. I was actually refreshed at the end of the session, and I was taking my squats super deep to try to get something out of it.

Paused bench press-
135x5
165x4
165x4
195x3
195x3
220x3
220x3
220x3
220x3
220x3

Squat-
135x5
185x5
225x4
265x3
265x3
300x3
300x3
300x3
300x3
300x3

Paused bench press-
135x5
165x5
195x5
195x5
195x5 (This was where I reached 1hr of training)
195x5
195x5

At this point I grabbed 10lb dumbells and did 3x5 chest flies. I just let the weight hang at the bottom and stretch the pecs.

Squat-
135x5
205x5
245x4
280x3
280x3
280x3
280x3
280x3

Wide stance good mornings-
185x5
185x5
185x5
185x5
185x5 (Total 1:40 of training, not 2 1/2 hours like some people were saying)

Is this supposed to be the intense workout that's burning people out? BS. I've been training longer and harder than this 4 days a week no problem. I'm definitely sticking to this program, and still believe in it, but I don't see what the fuss is all about.

I took the squats extra deep, and did the bench as if I had a shirt on, tucking my elbows and "rowing the bar" down to my lower chest/upper belly. One of the keys to this workout is to give form lots of focus, and I'm giving it all I've got in this respect.

Can't wait to do some DEADLIFTING Wednesday!

Just got finished building 6" boxes for deadlifts. I've just been doing normal ROM deads at home, but the Sheiko program calls for both deficit deads and deads with the weights up on boxes. Now I've got everything I need.

I also made a change to the program. I increased my maxes for the percentages. I put 405 as my max on squat and 295 as my max on bench, even though they are actually 375 and 275 respectively.

I looked over the numbers after this change, and I feel like I'm finally going to get the workout I want. Yesterday was just too easy. WAY to easy, on squats especially. Sets of 3 with 300? Really? I can do triples with a lot more than that.

Deadlifts and bench tomorrow. Bring it.

I wrote out tomorrow's session based on the spreadsheet. 47 total sets, mostly deadlift and bench, and not easy weights either. I'm crazy pumped for it.

I'm experiencing one huge side from my cycle; lethargy. I feel sleepy whenever things slow down at work, and only an hour ago (7 pm) I started to feel very sleepy. Like, "I think I'm going to actually go to bed at 7pm" sleepy.

I really don't mind though! It's actually nice. Normally when I go to sleep a little after 9 pm it feels too early. This is because I'm used to getting up early now, so it doesn't make me tired like it used to. But now once I do go to bed I'm ready to knock out right off the bat.

If I had a normal schedule and went to bed later like most people then it would be really annoying to be sleepy by 7, but it's all good with me.

Other than that, positive sides are getting into full swing now. Muscles feel pumped all the time. Not too much alpha male feeling, but it is there in small doses. Since I'm following the Sheiko program I won't be able to monitor strength gains like I could on my last cycle when I was doing instinctual training, but I may continue to push my percentages higher if my lifts are getting too easy.

I'm having a ton of trouble losing weight. I've put on a couple lb at this point, and I'm just not sure if I'm going to be able to lose anything at all during this cycle. I think the main reason is that deep down inside I don't WANT to lose weight. I want to get stronger. It's hard enough to lose weight even when you really want to, but when your heart isn't in it it just isn't going to happen.

I may just resign myself to stay in the 242 class for now, although I'd still like to get down below 220 at some point in the near future.

My used Titan super katana should be here soon! God I hope I can get the thing to touch. I'm really worried that I got too much shirt for me. If I did, I'll just keep working on it, as well as getting my raw bench up to get to the point where it WON'T be too much shirt.

I'll get it done.

DEADLIFTS. DEADLIFTS. DEADLIFTS. DEADLIFTS tomorrow. Bench press too, but mostly DEADLIFTS.

Today's session was a journey! Lots of ups and downs, and I feel great to have gotten through it. Although today's focus was deadlifts, I reached a huge milestone with bench today. I reached my goal of benching with a pause the same weight that I can bench without pausing. 315lb. I've been busting my ass on my form lately, doing tons of reading on how the big time pressers get it done. I've been doing this research in preparation for my entry into shirted benching, but today I didn't need a shirt to get 315 from my chest all the way to the top.

Here's how it all went down;

Deadlifts-
135x5
250x4
300x4
300x4
350x3
350x3
400x3
400x3
400x3
400x3
400x3 (phew, thank god that's over, but going back to deadlifts later is going to be a BITCH)

Paused bench-
150x5
175x5
205x4
205x4
220x3
220x3
235x2
235x2

At this point I was supposed to go to 250lb, but I misloaded the bar to 260

260x1

Once I realized that I had misloaded the bar, I also noted that it was incredibly easy, so I kept going...

275x1 (former PR)
295x1 (still pretty easy)
315x1

The 315 took everything I had. I pushed my heals down and tucked my elbows as the bar descended so my chest would go up towards the bar, then thrust my hips up by shoving my heals down even harder. At first the bar stalled a little, so I started to bring it back towards my head and flare my elbows. Turns out, the same form cues that work in a shirt work raw too! I locked it out with authority and held it for a second just like I would in a meet.

This lift felt PERFECT. Everything went right. I felt tight and powerful.

I need more of this!

Oh yeah, I did more deadlifts too;

Deadlifts with the weights on 6" blocks-
135x5
225x5
300x5
350x4
350x4
400x3
400x3
400x3
450x2
450x2
450x2
450x2

I barely finished the deadlifts. I have a blood blister at the base of my ring finger on my left hand, and I felt the callus start to seperate in the same place on the right hand. But I did it all, without straps, and I didn't even use chalk until the last 3 sets.

This session was NOT like Monday. It was intense. After the deadlifts I was supposed to do lunges. I did a few sets, but I was done. My energy was fully exhausted.

I was only supposed to go up to 250 on bench, then work back down, but obviously that didn't happen. I have a very good feeling about getting into a bench shirt. I know I'm not going to set any records, but I'm sure going to enjoy moving bigger numbers!
