Get strong my friends.
Great work Cutty! You going there at all is the win! How's your foot after squatting? When did you hurt your shoulder??? Get yourself healthy and then smash, you'll get there it just takes time !!!

You do it because the alternative is quitting. And you are not a quitter.

If only I had a dollar for every time I have asked myself that question. The answer for me is that it's just in my blood. It's a big part of me and my life. Heck, I even met my wife in the gym!

Nothing but good things have happened to me a s aresult of my lifting.

@Hunter: Shoulder has been hurt since I've been in Oregon, did it I think on some dips. It hasn't hurt as bad, but the placement I put it in for squats just weakens my stabilizers and quite frankly it just hurt today. Even with the warm ups I've been using to help it out. Just had to be the squats putting them in that position.

Foot seems ok, but I'll be able to tell later tonight. I had compression brace on it, it didn't seem to hurt on squats but the footing was somewhat shaky (I kept moving and trying to get a firm feel but it just didn't feel firm)

@BTB: Yeah, I just want more out of my body than I'm getting and it's awfully discouraging. It's days like this that make the PRs and great lifts feel better.

@Squatter: I hear you man. It'd be cool to meet a girl at the gym. Ever since I started and I became passionate about it, my life has opened up to feel stronger about things I enjoy instead of complacent and always depressed. It just sucks when multiple parts of your body hurts more than doesn't (the bad hurt).

Progression will be had.

Try some shoulder dislocations with a broomhandle, every day, to get the blood to the smaller muscles in the rotator cuff and such; I found that helped no end.

20-40 reps, back and forth, progressively lessening the grip width, every so many reps, but not to the point of pushing it.

I found a PVC pipe here that I've been using to help stretch my shoulders for squats (I have to have hands touching collars) and it helps.. I also do like a rear delt pull with my bands.. I'll have to try to work it more.. it just seems tight.. sometimes I wake up and it is achy.

I also notice if I go to turn my hand supinated (think: curling) and either hold arm straight out to my side or even just wherever, my shoulder feels like it's cramping up/hurts.

I've had shoulder issues from not benching right a long time ago, and dips.. but whatever I did this time is not cooperating.

Thanks for the tips.. I'll do that more!

If it's any consolation Cutty, my body "hurts" after almost every session. I just interpret it as a good hurt and it goes away just in time for the next session. haha For me, it likely has something to do with my age (49).

However, the passion will always be stronger than that hurt. Besides, lifting is fun!

Cutty I tend to say one thing but do another so take this with a grain of salt. I'm trying to learn here.
Training with an injury is far more damaging than just to the injury itself. When you stop let the body heal itself the down time is far less. Pushing when there's clearly bad pain is a mistake that can lead to more problems and longer recovery times.

Not knowing specifically whats wrong with your shoulder all I can offer is if it hurts(bad pain) don't do it.
To aid in recovery I add in a few high rep sets sometimes twice a day use very light weight just to put the nutrient rich blood in the area and aid the lymphatic system in clearing out the inflammation and other waste. Your ROM will dictate what exercises you can do, whats most important is very light weight and high reps 20-100.
This doesn't address what led to the problem that would be mobility of which there are tons of videos so choose exercises you feel comfortable performing.

You started train bc your weren't satisfied with normal, welcome to the over achieves club. Focus on what your goal is and know your already there. Everyday is one step closer to that reality.
