I do expect the SLDL to help a lot. When I first started lifting my squat and deadlift were fairly proportional. About 40kg apart, as you would expect. When I finally figured out how to squat, my squat rocketed upwards. I recall I jumped from 170 to 220 in the squat over a year just because I actually figured out what the fuck I was doing. My deadlift during that time never really moved, only marginally. All the guys I knew around me had deadlifts close to 300 with squats at 220, I was the oddity there. Looking back I think it was a basic lack of lower back and hamstring strength. My GM was immense at that time, I could GM with a nice arch well over 200kg, which made my squat superb but had marginal effect on my deadlift. A lift I ignored then was the SLDL, for one I was from the McRobert school of lifting and I had it in the back of my head that anything 'round-back' style would more than likely kill me, leave me impotent and probably homeless. So I ignored that lift and did RDL's, but they were awkward and not massively heavy. So my lower back strength remained unharnessed.

Until now! Cracking the squat is a matter of course, I've cracked the bench recently and if this works out I'll have the deadlift too. 2013 will finally be the year of raw PRs!

2012 was a good year for me, I certainly progressed in equipped lifting and certainly progressed in terms of actually being able to lift heavy again without parts of me falling off in a T1000-esque-frozen-in-liquid-nitrogen manner. BUT 2013 is the year where I FINALLY hit some raw PRs on the big lifts that count.

Regarding overhead work, yeah I generally do some. Not really my focus but I've been liking BTN stuff lately as it keeps my shoulders loose.

Rest day today, tomorrow I'll hit up some more squat, bench and dead probably get some rep current bests going.

December 13th 2012

My confidence is real low. I needed today on bench. First heavy session in over 2 months. 315 and 335 felt heavy. Had a hard time finding my groove, but I didn't quit. I trudged forward and smashed a 400 paused rep.

I feel good, now I need more.
