This is excellent Babs. Its too easy, at least for me, to fall into the trap of judging others.

Considering the rounded lower back and very jerky movement, I still think this particular case was most likely an example of craziness.

Sat in the sun from 8am to 7pm, with my shirt off for the first time, watching really fast cars.

We all know I look pretty crappy with my shirt off, or on for that matter, but down here there are plenty of old fat, non muscular dudes going without a shirt. Figured I wouldn't stand out that bad.


Unfortunately my phone cant capture these machines. Its unlike anything you've ever felt, well I guess unless you've seen a space ship take off.

It was NHRA, National Hot Rod Association, qualifying. Third time I've gone, been waiting since we got tickets in April.

Mostly bracket racing, where instead of the vehicles going against each other they try to get as close as possible to a set time in a 1/4 mile, 1320 feet.

Most vehicles you buy off the car lot make it from a dead stop to 1320 feet in maybe 18 seconds.

There are several different classes here, running around 12 seconds, or 10.9, 9.9, 8.9, and some in 6-7 seconds.

The top fuel, alcohol burning funny cars and dragsters are the big deal. Listen up: For the final qualifying, the track was prepped so they let off the throttle at 1000 feet. With over 6000 horsepower, these things spin the tires the entire way. Some manage to get to over 280 mph in 660 feet, and cross the 1/4 mile mark in less than 4 seconds at 310-320 something mph.

When these beasts go by, not only is the noise insane, the ground shakes. You feel it in your chest.



I sat in the car, and then Dairy Queen, for over an hour contemplating on whether I should go lift or not. I didn't. I knew that from sitting most of the day and the horrible sunburn, it would be a sub par session at best.

Sigh, I'm contemplating leaving the other site. Nobody realizes the fact that form deteriorates near failure. And every time I give advice that I'm pretty sure to be right, 3 or 4 new people chime in with some off the wall foolishness. I realize I'm not an expert, but this is getting ridiculous.

Well, i'am glad you had some fun on race day to help forget about things for awhile. I too once forgot about sunscreen while at the race track and also paid a big price for it. My cousin once forgot about sunscreen while spring skiing and ended up in the hospital with 2nd degree burns to parts of his face. Dunno if Apple Jacks is a viable remedy tho lol.

Too bad about M&S tho. I sometimes miss some over there, but i'am now a much better lifter these days sincere devoting my time at MAB

whoa, that's insane! haven't been to the races myself in a while. never been to an official NHRA event. there's a drag strip near where i live -- Atco raceway -- and my brother-in-law and his friends would go there from time to time. still a good time even when it's not pro drivers.
