Hey brother, I'm brand new around here but I've read through your logs a little bit; they're very well done! I've been into powerlifting about as long as you - maybe 3 years or so. Like most, I've done a few things right and a few things wrong. I've got a few comments, I hope you don't mind...

First, on the calorie counting. One poster likened it to keeping track of your lifting - which you clearly do. Eating is the same way, if you want to move the scale, you've got to log your food. I would suggest buying a cheap food scale off of Amazon and getting signed up for Fitday or My Fitness Pal and start tracking what you eat. It can actually be fun sometimes if you look at it as a challenge. When I'm cutting and get hungry, hot green tea really helps me out and curbs my appetite for a couple of hours. That might help you in a couple of way in freezing cold Indiana

Second, your feeling worn down lately might be signs of CNS fatigue. "Heavy" is a relative term for all lifters and each person really needs to figure out how much volume and intensity they can handle at a given stage in their lifting. It seems to me that you just might have reached that point where you've handled about all you can right now. You'd be smart IMO to take a deload week or go light for a few weeks. Also, if you are dieting really hard, this can speed up your fatigue. I think you should pay attention to what your body is telling you - there's no need to push it too hard and end up with an injury that will set you back months!

As far as the pulling goes, deadlifts are the most taxing exercise there is in terms of CNS fatigue. I generally only pull heavy once every 3-4 weeks (I'm in my early 40's). I've never really had much luck pulling heavy week after week. In place of deads, I like doing good mornings, some deficits, speed pulls and sometimes pin pulls. I don't get much out of the pin pulls because my weak point is off the floor, so deficits suit me better. However, overloading on pin pulls can build confidence off the floor - for me it's a nice ego lift.

The fact that you're busting your ass in the gym, logging and posting up videos is admirable. You should be very proud of that and of your accomplishments. Few people are brave enough to do that. Few people are willing to challenge themselves as you are. Few people are ready for the truth of the iron. You are ready for those things, and that shows. Don't focus too much on the daily and weekly up's and down's. Progress is made over time, over months and years. It's usually a bumpy ride along the way, but if you look back over months and years, I'm sure you'll notice your outstanding progress. Keep working, brother!

Thanks Audix for the well thought out post. I need to do something with my eating because no matter what I do if I don't log it I can't really see whether I'm doing it right or not. The thing that bothers me is I lost 120 pounds over a year's span and did it just by eating less like I am now.. I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

I'm changing up the routine a little and working on progressing but I'm not going to do heavy pulls from the floor regularly like I have.. it's just not helping me out any.

Thanks guys!

Yeah I left weight on the platform and I'm glad because it will give me something to shoot for next time. Was the best day ever. Can't wait for the next one

Monday 12/16/13

Heavy Squat - 285, 335, 390x3 - Loved it.

Bench I played around with the pins and tried to see different heights, my shoulder was kind of messing up.. I did some lockouts at 185 and 225.

That was pretty much it that day, wanted to make it a shorter day, test some new stuff out, etc.
