I can't feel the bar it's like wearing protection, beside you grab the bar you have to put a death grip on it and the is nothing like the feel of cold steel in your hands! Man up!

If you want to wear them then wear them, but I'd say put money in to straps and wrist wraps. They're mad cheap and real useful

It's an old thread but anyway...lifting gloves, for me, made lifts harder, because the bar then effectively becomes a "thick bar", however, some people feel intense pain from the cold of the barbell (normally people with certain medical conditions) so for them they also have their place.

Basically, do what works for you.

Yea invest in some straps instead. I used to wear gloves but my hands grew much stronger and tougher without them. There is a period of time that sucks, because your hands kill.. but after that you won't even think to use gloves... plus your hands will be much stronger.

This! Strengthen your hands and they wont hurt after a while!

Like someone posted before me on this thread, i have been using gloves not because of the protection but because my hands are really really sweaty. Im a member of a "housewife gym", and that means chalk is out, because they want to keep it clean and sterile like. It also means growling and dropping heavy weights is a nono so i might change gym sooner rather than later tbh.. but i digress.

Lately ive been thinking that my sweaty palms only really bother me on pull movements like barbell rows and deadlifts. And for those movements ive been considering getting a pair of straps instead. In the long run, they will serve me much better than gloves ever could, for better grip.

IMO cheap $10.00 gloves from walmart work as well as anything else.

Wearing them has nothing to do with protecting my hands from callouses. In my gym, many of the bars have a "slick" feel to them so gloves are just for a better grip. Chalk is great but nobody else at my gym uses it.
