I am 67 and have competing in power lifting for just over 2 years. I did not start lifting seriously until I was 60. I got up to benching 315 then hurt my shoulder. After 2 1/2 years of various therapies, I had surgery this past August: NOT rotator cuff, just cleaning up arthritis. The shoulder is back and doing well. I herniated a disc last April but no pain since pain meds and was prevented from deadlifting for 6 months. Just did a competition last week and pulled 260 lbs (at 181 weight class). My bench sucked last week in part from poor form. I have another competition at the end of May and want to get back up and need some training advice. I plan to compete at least in bench and deadlift. My goal is to get as close to benching 300 as possible (did 223 in practice a couple of weeks ago, but form at competition did not permit me to do that) and 400 for deadlift. A long road back on rehab, of course, but I have just over 12 weeks and can put a good training program together. Would appreciate any and all advice on workout strategies and plans for the next 12 weeks. I usually lift 4 to 6 days per week and do cardio (elliptical) on those days also.
