also keep in mind your age. you don't have the test levels of a teenager, but none of us late-20s/early-30s guys do. if it makes you feel any better, i'm also naturally skinny, and it takes me FOREVER to build up any noticeable mass. but it does come, as long as i eat.

i agree with Tannhauser, that you need to commit to bulking or commit to cutting. for myself, i've just resolved to gain fat. i don't care if i look like crap for a while, i want to get bigger and stronger. i know that in the future, if i want to, i'll be able to lean out and look beach-worthy. but i'm willing to get fat for now if it means steady strength and mass gains. isn't it more fun to lift heavier weights anyway? i don't know if regular guys like us can get there by getting overanxious about our waists.

edit: also, i have to say, miked96's article still says it all on this topic: http://muscleandbrawn.com/165-pound-...-rally-strong/

BtB's probably getting sick of hearing me mention it!

i totally agree with the above statment from secounds out,

i'm also going through a fatting phase (bulking) adding some fat and getting a bit sloppy looking dosent bother me to much, i know when i lean down i will have alot more muscle mass.

If your sex drive is fine then you aren't eating enough.

My sex drive is through the damn roof and its really hard to get big. I often wonder just how much of it really is genetic. I suppose if I did some supplement I could gain easier, but I'm ok being lean and strong.

Now that's one of the strangest things I've ever heard. Please explain how having a high sex drive indicates not eating enough

I'm committed to bulking for the rest of the year regardless of BF composition & I will asses my situation come the new year. I do only want to gain around 1.5lb per month consistently

I've heard the moto eat big to get big & it's BS in my opinion. I ate big once & gained a ton of fat far too quickly & that fat has stayed with me for many years. I think slow & steady will win this race

As for my test levels I will get them checked out the next time i'm at the doctors, no idea when that will be as I don't go often

i think he means your sex drive is good which means your test is probley ok, so that means you might not be eating enough to gain muscle, maybe,

i would get it check just for a peace of mind.

aren't the bolded parts contradictory? still sounds like you're trying to find a razor thin margin between bulking and cutting that i personally don't think exists. have you seen IceCreamFitness recently? he's on a bulk. he's obviously gained lots of muscle (he openly admits to steroid use) but he's put on quite a bit of fat as well. have you seen pics of bodybuilders in their bulking phases? they're extreme examples because they're trying to get every 1/10 of an ounce of muscle they can, but still:

In my opinion, the notion that the average person can accumulate appreciable lean mass while staying lean is a myth used to get you to read more articles and buy more supplements. I think the easiest targets for this myth are educated guys who are used to earning achievements through reading and research or just guys who think science holds all the answers and can give us what we want.

I don't think you took the time to read that article I posted by miked96...

"eat big" and "overeat" are two different things. no one here told you to overeat, and it sounds like what you were doing was overeating. again, you seem to equate all fat gain with overeating. yes, excess fat gain is a sign of overeating. but if you're not gaining some fat on a bulk, i'm sorry, but you're just wrong. also, if you're obsessively trying to control the amount of fat you gain on a meal-to-meal or even on a daily basis...again, i'm sorry, but i just don't thinking this is a successful strategy for getting big and strong. i've been there and done that, and i wasted years not making progress.

SecondsOut has hit the nail on the head in my opinion, the "lean bulk" has been taken to the extreme lately mostly by youtube channels and the like. There are people who can do this but they are generally people who have been lifting for a very long time and know their body well or have hired a trainer to micro manage their diet for them.
