all rowing movements would be ideal on building the muscles that you use while you row you canoe. building your secondary muscles like bis and rear delts would be a great idea as well.

i would agree with BTB. you would get weaker, but on the other hand you will way less so you will have to potential to have better numbers in terms of that specific weight class.
