DW...I think DW struggled with deadlift at his last meet. I believe it was very frustrating. I found the link:

5 pound squat PR, deadlifts were sub-par. But DW commented that the flights were rushed.

Ok so my examples are wrong but my opinion remains the same: you can't specialise in one lift without your others suffering.

While they may suffer initially, I don't think it would be that long before you could bring them back up again. That may be a very important point if you have a competition schedule, but for the average lifter it's probably not as big of a concern.
