Default Into the Pit?



I am seriously thinking about making an indoor Anderson pit and trying progressively deeper squat work. Any thoughts? Concerns? Waste of time?

I have been trying to figure out a decent way of elevating my squat rack without it being a royal pain. I am considering cinder blocks, though I do not know how many impacts they could take with 600 pounds before cracking.

Thats an awesome idea, go for it! I would weld a fundament instead of going with blocks, more work but lasts longer and is more stable.

He dug a big ol' hole in the ground - at first when he was in it and the barbell was above ground he could just do some lockouts.

Over time he would toss more dirt into the pit filling it up, thereby increasing the distance he had to move the barbell.

By the end he would do pretty much full reps with the SAME WEIGHT he started off doing lockouts with. Quite a progression!

I thought about a base but I need to keep it light because I have to do this with my wife's help and need something she can slide under when I lift the rack. The rack is fairly light.

That's exactly it. Thanks Fazc.

My squat pins only go down to a half squat height. By adding a base of cinder blocks I would start much higher and have pin heights every 2 inches or so.

Based on how I do this weekend, I might start with 600 as a test run.

you can do the same thing by suspending the bar from a pair of chains from the top of your rack. Anderson squats are basically concentric only squats from varying heights.

so you can start with the chains at like 48-50" and lower them from week to week an inch or so.

Good idea in general. I can't though because I train in a basement with a low ceiling, and don't have a full height rack. I have a sumo rack.
