My theory...no one cares. Well, very few care. I say this respectfully, but I hope my point is understood.

It's not a sport that attracts a lot of young quality athletes in the US. It's not a sport we are passionate about.

I surely have no clue what I'm talking about though, so I'd like to hear your opinion....

I's say you hit the nail on the head.
That, and it's just a crap load of work to get good at it.

Most days I'm surprised we can field little league teams any more. My wife and I drove through our town of 50k yesterday on the way home and saw only 2 kids outside "playing". Both were riding bikes. Didn't see a single boy shooting hoops or playing baseball.

It's quite the opposite here. Here, you have parents forcing their children into 3-4 sports at a time, trying to make up for the fact that they, themselves, were never athletes. Parents whose kids are their sport, per sea.

The kids in my neighborhood ride their bikes, play b-ball and have named two open patches of grass after the MD and NY football stadiums. My son has tried every organized sport except basketball and wants to try that this year.

That said, the addictive nature of video games has put an overall dent in the physical activity of males in general.

We have that to a degree as well, but around here rarely do you see the kids playing sports for fun - pickup games.

9 weekends out of 10 there are soccer tournaments taking place, involving 1000 kids who hate soccer.

Kids are not stupid. They know a crappy game when forced to play it.

Question on Jepordy.

The answer is.
"The best way to take all the fun out of playing with a ball."

The question:
"What is Soccer?"

You're not kidding about those damn video games! As a couple of you know, I'm enlisted in the Army, shipping in a few more months. When I travelled up to jacksonville to finish my processing I stayed at a hotel with about 40 other kids enlisting. There is a room set aside for the future soldiers with TVs and computers. When I went into the room to tell them I was going for a run I saw 20 kids playing video games, about half of which were war games.

A bunch of skinny, pasty, energy drink addicted future soldiers sitting around playing video games. They're going to get a wake up call soon. . .very soon.

I have a few opinions on this article without even reading it.
1. Lyle is a complete DB, I have interacted with him on other sites. He has a good brain as far as nutrition and exercise, but cant apply it for himself.
2. Oly lifting is very hard and takes a crazy amount of dedication.
3. The US has a ton of other options as far as sports go, and most of thos sports are seasonal, requiring dedication for only a few months out of the year.
4. There isnt much money to be made with Oly lifting.
5. Where there isnt much money, there arent a ton of qualified coaches
6. A lack of qualified coaches means that anyone interested needs to be lucky enough to live close to a coach or learn on their own, which is really hard to do.
