Maybe you can talk them into getting a buffalo bar. They are extra long so you can go real wide on most squat racks. (Don't mean to derail the thread...)

Not sure I understand the question correctly...

The rack pins/hooks are usually really close to the end of the bar on most squat racks so you can't grab the barbell near the end.

The buffalo bar is longer, allowing for you to hold the bar with a very wide grip, easing the pressure on the shoulders.
