Default Pre- Workouts/ Food and Strongman

Hi guys.

So I have my first amateur strongman comp on Saturday, I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm a bit nervous at the same time.

My question is this - what would you do in terms of taking pre-workouts etc before/during a comp? I usually take some myprotein pulse (caffeine, AAKG, beta alanine, creatine, tyrosine, guarana etc.) before workouts, but I really don't want this coming back to bite me in the ass when it comes to stones (last) or anything like that.

I was just going to eat how I normally do in preparation for a rugby game -lots the night before etc, some light carbs/protein in the morning, but nothing too 'heavy'. On the basis that the day will take a lot longer than a rugby match, I was going to take some bananas/sandwiches/gummy bears to keep me firing in between, although I'm not sure how much i'll need them.

Anyone with any experience/general thoughts, feel free to let me know what you think, reps for good responses, of course

I would avoid doing anything you haven't tried out before. I know you haven't done a strongman contest before, I mean trying out some new pre-workout or eating pattern that could have unpredictable effects.

I don't use pre-workouts other than coffee, so can't comment on that.

Food-wise, what you do for a rugby match sounds fine to me. And taking plenty of carb-rich foods with you sounds good.

That's all I got. Hopefully someone with loads of experience will chip in.

I never take stims when i compete, but if you should, save it until the end of the competition.

Good luck!

When I compete in strongman, I usually take half of my regular pre-workout. I always take a pre workout, but I just reduce the dose before the competition. Then if needed I will take another half serving towards the end.

The worst thing you can do is have too much stims before the comp and get all jittery combined with nerves.

I think your eating plan that day is good, I like to have a lot of liquid carbs throughout the day. Hydration is key.
