Default Squat Breathing

Hey guys, something I just thought of real quick. i've read before that there's a lot of different ways to breath while performing your squats. I was wondering, what is your preferred way? For as long as I've trained, I've always sucked in a breath real quick, lower into the hole, and then slowly exhale on the way up. What do you think?

I brace (aka hold) through pretty much the entire movement. Same with other big lifts.

Not sure if it's 100% optimal, but I certainly feel safer doing it that way.

I take a slow, deliberate breath before I start to descend. Once I hit the bottom I attempt to breath out hard but hold the air in below my throat. The pressure of trying to breath out but not actually letting it out helps support the core. In an attempt to finish the lift explosively I usually start letting air out about halfway up. The air usually comes out in a growl that tends to leave me horse the next day. If I hit a sticking point I usually start yelling at myself, lol. It actually works to help finish the lift!

Thanks guys this has helped a lot. I've gone with something similar to what Soldier suggested and it's proving to be very useful.

I suck in "big air" into my lower stomach, then push against my belt. Hold it the entire lift.

Best Meet Lifts:
Squat = 325

Total = 888

me too! Grunts are allowed on the heavy concentric as well.
