Default My meet write up

So many know this was my first meet ever. While the actual lifting part pretty much sucked, overall I had a blast! Lack of training the last two months and my wonderful head issues made for quite a challenge. But Steve and Brute kept my spirits high and I enjoyed my time there even when I was in lots of pain.
The lifting I did...
Squats
Warmups 135x 3(maybe it was 5)
1st attempt- 275.58 good
2nd attempt- 303.13 good
After that lift my head got super bad and continued to get worse as the day went on!
3rd attempt- 325.18 fail
Lost tightness in the bottom. I breathed cause it felt like my head was going to break open
Long wait
Bench
Warmups 135x 3
1st attempt- 225.97 good
After this I felt like I had nothing left, no energy or drive and of course my head was total sh!t! So Steve made a smaller jump than we originally planned.
2nd attempt- 236.99 fail
Just had nothing, felt like a ton, and didn't think I could even hit 225 again much less try 236.99 again!
3rd attempt- skipped
Long break again
Deadlifts
Steve asked me to warmup and I told him I didn't think I'd get any benefit from warmups and it would just add to my pain!
Warmups none
1st attempt- 363.76 good
I just walked out, head was so bad I had no intensity(which you can see on the vid) and I pulled it very easily. Could have gotten 400+ but saw no benefit and just couldn't purposely hurt my head more for a few more points/lbs on my total. I got a legal pull and told Steve that's it
Total
892.863
Considering it was my first meet, basically no training the last 2 months, and my head....think I did ok
Now the ride down and back were really awesome talking with Steve! Getting advice on lots of stuff. Shooting the sh!t, laughing and joking around! At the hotel, the password for Internet access was "juice" hahahahahaaa! Then Brute showed up and we all had a great time laughing and goofing around! I don't think I've laughed this much the whole year put together!
After the meet we had some food and drinks, well they ate my head was too bad. Then we went and saw Pacific Rim in 3D, which was entertaining.
Sunday we watched the women, teens, and masters lift. Women were awesome, and the rest was just longggggggg! Too many guys not ready when the bar was loaded, slowed everything down!
Lots of good lookin women at the meet and at restaurants and bars! I was really surprised there weren't many "normal" looking guys at the meet! 90+% were "enhanced" to the gils and superhuman looking! Just didn't realize how few lifters were actually natural there.
Overall a great time! I think if I hadn't had so much fun outside of the meet, I probably wouldn't ever do another! It was brutal on my head! Told my wife that night I wouldn't do another one for a very long time if ever. 2 days later....yea I'm doing another one
Will be doing the Iowa meet in Nov with Steve, Brute, Erin and anyone else that joins us! Just too much fun to let my pain ruin it! Not sure if I'll do a full meet or pussy out and do ironman or dead only. Need to think about it more, but I'll decide pretty soon
Hope my boring write up wasn't too bad!
And thank you all so much for your support during and after the meet! I wish I had made MAB more proud with better numbers! Just got to a point I didn't care anymore, lol!
You guys and gals are all awesome and pushed me to do something I never would have considered a year ago!
Smash on everyone!!!!!!

Jay you couldn't have made MAB any more proud regardless of the numbers you put up or could have put up! The hurdles that you overcome on a daily basis to lift would sideline 99% of us! You got on the platform, put up 3 solid lifts, and now have a total! As someone else already said, you beat 100% of the lifters that have never stepped on the platform

Great job Mr. Powerlifter

The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.
