Default A sincere thanks to MAB

In 2007 I met a powerlifter from Wisconsin by the name of Todd Olson. He introduced me to the sport, and I soon left my 20 year journey with muscle building behind.

Since switching to powerlifting, I have been able to help, guide, pressure (ha!) or in some way assist over 30 individuals on to the platform for their first meet. For each one of these folks, powerlifting has been a life changing step forward. They will go on to share their passion with others, and the cycle will continue.

I just wanted to personally thank Todd for sharing his passion with me. I sent him an email earlier tonight about his impact on my life, and the lives of others, and I hope he receives it.

In life we rarely get to understand just how many people we directly impact for the better. It is my wish that Todd gets to understand how many lives he has changed by merely investing time and helping me.

Powerlifting is like no other sport on the planet. Win or lose we come to respect the bar, and see it as a worthy opponent. Even in defeat we are able to walk away from battle knowing that we did all we could. There is a special satisfaction in this feeling.

In 8 days I have a chance to land up to an 1900+ raw powerlifting total at the age of 45. The numbers don't matter to me right now. I have learned to love the battle, and to understand that in powerlifting there is no victory or defeat. There is only the next battle, giving us another chance at redemption.

Each day we enter the arena with a barbell. Some days we win. Many days the bar wins.

When you reach the stage in your journey when you appreciate the chance to enter battle more than the outcome itself, you are truly living.

We are handed only so many chances to enter battle in life. Honor your opponent by leaving nothing in the arena.

Next Saturday I plan on doing so. I am ready to go to war, and to risk everything. I am ready to honor this chance, and I do not care if I fail.

I hope only to honor Todd, and the many others who invested their time into my journey by ripping the living shit out of the bar, and making it pay for it's sins against humanity. It has taken my flesh, my blood, my time, and it deserves to be bent until it submits.

I know some of this many sound sappy to those of you who don't powerlift. Understand that I have spent the last 6 years of my life waging war in a cat puke-infested spider den called my basement. My joy is down there, and my blood. My tears, and the screams resulting from my personal records.

Next weekend is the culmination of all this for me. My Superbowl.

Thanks to Todd, my family and Muscle and Brawn, the strongest group of lifters on the Internet. You have invested your time in me and I appreciate it more than you know.

The REASON why I love this sport ... infact this is not only a sport for me but is my life style .... numbers actually don't matter what matter is that I'm in continuous battle to improve myself ...

Id wager that its well more than 30 individuals you have helped to find their way to the platform.
Id still be wondering if i as strong enough without your help….funny thing is it wasn’t me you specifically addressed at the time but your advice to another spurred me on.
You are a ledged Steve , smash on sir!

30 seems low to me also.

I know if you had told me 18 months ago, that I would become a competative power lifter....I would have looked at you like you had two heads.

But, thanks to BTB, I have competed 2 times....so far....

I could have NEVER done it without you Steve!!

Now go KICK ASS!!!!!!!

The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.

Steve - Iam sure Todd would be proud for not only your accomplishment under the bar, but also how you have paid it forward with a big heart. You genuinely care about all of us.

You have had the same impact on my life as Todd has had on mine. My life would suck without you literally.

Love ya ya Big Beast and now shut up and go make that bar bend like it never has before.
