Default Powerlifter cutting

How do you manage to cut without losing strength? Cutting is not my primary goal but my pants are getting tight and I am too poor to buy a new wardrobe every weight class. So far I have started eating a cup of cottage cheese with each meal, avoided snacks, and cut carbs. I absolutly HATE cardio so I am just trying to acomplish this with diet.
Worst comes to worst I will just wear shorts through the summer but I would like to keep from out growing my one set of jean I fit into.

Just keep going heavy, but focus on recovery to keep yourself from burning out with the reduction in calories, and back off on both volume and frequency as needed. I'm cutting a few lb at the moment and I'm really only training 3 times a week, usually lower body twice and benching once or twice.

I used carb backloading and it seemed to work well.

The biggest mistake people make is that they dramatically drop calories and change their diets. They will go from 3500 cals per day, or something like that, to 2000 calories per day using something completely different like intermittent fasting or whatever.

Cutting should be approached by only slightly backing off of calories. Change one small variable at a time, and only dial down calories when needed.

Yeah, it's very different from bodybuilders. They often use big, quick changes in calories to influence fat loss, but what's best for fat loss isn't whats best for maintaining strength. Slow and steady is best.

Carb Backloading could give you a quick weight loss of 5 or 10 lbs. And then you could resume your normal routine. If you are getting too big for your britches, then you probably need to tighten up your diet anyway.

I backloaded towards the end of last year and went from 335ish to 310ish in a short time. Hung around that weight for a lil bit then at the beginning of the year, I decided to add some quality weight and got up to 345 and settled in the 335-340 range. I did it without going up a size in pants. So just clean up your diet.

Just to share my personal experience as of late, completely cutting carbs killed my strength. I dropped about 37lbs in a little less than 6 months, but my strength took a hit. If you are going to manipulate carbs and strength is a concern, take the backloading approach.
