Default Very First Meet

Competed in my very first meet this past weekend. The Georgia Spring Open, in Savannah, Georgia.
I competed in "Masters II" at 181 lb wt class (172 lbs)
My workout partner also competed, it was his first time also. He competed in "Masters I" at 165 class.

Here is how it went:

Bench:
182 Fail (Did not wait for "rack" command)
187 good (fairly easy)
195 good

Squat:
204 good (easy)
220 good (easy)
237 good (easy) (PR)
Had at least 15-20 pounds still in me...but lately at home I had been struggling with 235...

Dead:
242.5 good (easy)
259 good (Easy)
270 good (fairly easy) (PR)
again, had 15-20 pounds more easy, but at home I pulled 265 two weeks ago and barely made it.

Had an absolute great time. I THOUGHT I had the PL bug before...but nothing like I got it now!!

I learned a few things....

Lifting at a meet is a completely different animal than lifting in the garage

I had paused benched at home, but it was nothing like the pause in a meet. Also I was not used to the "Rack" command, did not even wait for it the first attempt.

Maybe it was adrenalin, but I easily could have lifted a lot more than I had lifted 2 weeks ago at home.

Also, looking back, I should have started a little higher, and made a little bigger jumps in my weights...I played it too conservative....

End Result:
Masters II Gold Medal 181 lb class
Masters II Gold Medal Push and Pull

W/O Partner won gold in Masters I also

MANY, MANY thanks to BTB, JB, SQUATTER and IWILL for there advice and support!! and everyone else here at M&B. I could have done none of this without all of the encouragement from all of you!!

The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.

That adrenaline always works it's magic mojo at meets.

I think you did it right for your first meet. Sometimes having too little space between lifts can get taxing.

Either was I see 2 PRs. Well done.

Great job for your first meet. Now you have meet PR's to break.

Marvin!! What a surprise! Man, you nailed it. Looks like competing is in your blood as all your lifts felt easier there than at home. It doesn't appear as tho nerves got the best of you either, which is a bonus.

Don't second guess your weight selections either. You have a great start and nowhere to go but up.

Very happy and proud of you my friend. Competing, as you now know, does nothing but good for a lifter.

Also, congratz to your buddy for his success as well. I am sure you also fed off of each others lifts.

Now, it's time to get BIG!
