If it's getting it off the ground get your fingers under the stone which will pretty much cause you to pick it up. I've never had the problem really I had troubles getting it off the ground untill I started getting my fingers under it.

Tacky is huge. In training I had never used tacky and when I went to comp the stone came off the ground easily. But tacky is a pain, I think there is training tacky available, easier clean up

Its alot about technique really, I dont think there is a good "gym lift" to improve the lapping really, maybe fronties and rows or zerchers will be good but I dont think backstrength is your issue.

I would just do more stonelifting If I were you, take a "light" stone and practice lapping it for sets of 5 for example. Just do alot of work to find your groove. Also tacky is a huge help! You can get the glue handball players use from a sports store (atleast over here) its cheaper and its good for training. Also not that sticky and much easier to wash of =)
