Well its nor powerlifting as they dont compete in the bench. So good luck to them.

Tbh I think PL should habe gone for the press as opposed to the bench

Years ago, there used to be 'strength set' competitions, which I believe was squat, curl and bench press.

I can see why purists or specialists might not think it's a good idea to have both, but personally I've nothing against it. For one thing, some of those cross-fit people are just incredible (vids of women overhead squatting their bodyweight for 15 reps spring to mind). Secondly, from a spectator point of view it's a bit of variety and interest.

The strict press is a great exercise, and a list that most people still relate to more than a bench press, I think. The Olympic Committee were just very slow to adapt to lifters exploiting a loophole in the rules.

To be honest - and with the greatest respect to any lifters on here - I'd still rather see a decent overhead press than someone in an exoskeleton bench pressing through what appears to be a 4" range of motion. The latter's just not very visually exciting, at least to me.

Is it an event like that or just a division? lots of them are having a division in which its still powerlifting, much like masters, or teens.

So do you have to be a crossfitter to do it? I would do a meet that is just squat, Strict press, and deadlift. Wouldnt have to worry about tearing my pec.

Oh wait I misunderstood you. I thought you meant they were combining the meet with a Crossfit competition. My mistake!

A CrossFit division? We don't need anymore divisions.

The addition of the strict press is interesting, but meets are already too long for their own good. Powerlifting needs to stick with what it is.

In the business world there is a saying that it's better to dominate at one thing than to try and compete at them all. This is a case of powerlifting overstepping itself and trying to do too many things hoping it will make some sort of difference. It might, but I consider the likelihood minimal.

Powerlifting needs to work on improving its own sport before they worry about expanding it. They could start with unity, which is something CrossFit has.

I am a member(ish). However the kit is very limited atm (only been open 6 months) so no bench, and due to oversized cheap bumpers can only get 210kg on the bar. Plus the bars are cheapish oly style. So like a dam bamboo bar when doing low bar squats lol He's told me he's getting some slim plates for this meet I used to just pay for the old session. Now my fiance is a member I just come down in one of her 'open gym' slots. Which is very nice of the coach to let me do so. Funnily enough he played D1 football in the US.

Coming back to your question I have heard lots of different stories about 'none crossfitters' training at crossfit gyms. From being very welcoming (as the coach of my gym) to not being so. All boils down to the coach I guess. Most of what I have heard has been good.

Fundamently if you coach crossfit you want most of the people coming down to train at your gym to train as per your coaching

I think the 'Crossfit Total' has been around for a while and dosn't really appear to be in competition with powerlifting. Just crossfits way of testing max strength.

I need 592.5kg total @90kg to be Elite. My meet is in May so will just have 5-6 weeks after my National Champs this weekend to do soem OH work. Think I'll just OH twice and bench once a week. Not gona aim to peak or really taper.

Did I read right that a powerlifting fed is going to run this style of meet? Sounds kinda silly to me unless its just a one off/collaboration type thing?

I am not a powerlifter (so take this with a grain of salt), and I, personally, like to OHP more than bench. So, I wouldn't mind watching people do this.

It would take some getting use to as far as what is the correct form/criteria for the strict press. Also, the 3 lift totals would probably drop when you sub the OHP with the bench (unless there are people who can press what they can bench - I know I can't even come close).

Overall though.....I just enjoy watching feats of strength - whatever those feats are.
