Default The double overhand grip

How strong can you really get in your deadlift by not using mixed grip or hook grip?

I am asking this because I do not want to use mixed grip because of my huge luck when it comes to lifting weights (always ending up injuring myself) and will definitively end up with a bicep tore (I will probably start trainin with the hook grip, even though it hurts like hell)

Just use straps. I train most of my pulls double over hand with straps and had no issue at all holding on to 535 when locking it out at the meet.

I have no issues going over & under but like Brute said...just use straps. Assuming you not competing right!!! Feel normal after a while. To tell you more...I don't DL if I don't go over/under grip. But everybody is dif. Just try, feel and use what is better for your style.

I went from 225 to 405 (PR) in about 4 months using only DOH.

Training good grip strength without going into your DL with fatigued hands/forearms will be key.

Use straps and DOH. That's my advice. I can't pull over 365 DOH.

I would say start practicing hook grip. I've been working it the past 2 months or so and just pulle 420 for 5 reps from 2" blocks. Seems to be getting stronger pretty quick.

I personally think its a bad idea to depend on straps... straps dont let you progress on grip strength. Only use straps on sets you cant hold onto otherwise, and if grip is your limiting factor, do some extra grip work afterwards...

Hook grip can do wonders for increasing the amount of weight you can hold. But, as others have said the double overhand with straps is a great way to go as well. I have what I consider a SUPER weak grip and so I train most often with straps, but was not hindered when deadlifting 505 with a mixed grip and no straps.

Can you not use a mixed grip at meets?
