Nothing makes training more real than signing up for a meet. If you want to push yourself in the gym, get on the platform.

Steve had to convince me that I was strong enough to compete but I'm so glad he did. Being on the platform and getting white lights is an amazing validation for the hours and hours you spend working your a$$ off in the gym.

We can start a thread if you like, I have lifted in a few feds out there. The ones the rules are pretty much the same.

There is nothing like the feeling of having your name called to the platform!

I saw my training partner dump his opener squat, a weight he had done for 6 during that training cycle!!! I was up next lol! All I could think was, dont be like him!

Seeing those white lights is a big reward. After I hit the 1003 squat I wanted to yell and jump, but I was too tired haha!

only for the motivation i get from this site i dont think i would have stepped onto the platform.

i am sure glad i did.

those that are waiting until they are "strong enough" to compete , probably never will.

in my opinion , get to a meet as soon as you can.
the meet is a completely different animal than the gym.

Gym PRs are great , but you cant beat the ones you earn at a meet where you are judged.

And we haven't even touched upon the brotherhood you will experience, the friends you will make, the things you will learn, etc.

Ok, here are a few to start:
1- How are the weight classes divided?
2- When you say "raw" is that no gear at all? No straps, no belt?
3- How do the levels work? ( I have seen the charts- level I, II,III, IV, Elite etc but do ot know what they mean exactly)
Thanks!

I think a big part of the enjoyment and sense of accomplishment is being able to look back at your first meet, probably filled with trepidation & apprehension, and then consider how much progress you made, in regards to both strength and confidence. This also applies to weightlifting, strongman, CrossFit, and bodybuilding. Don't wait until you're on the verge of breaking world records in your basement or local gym. Compete. Meet people. Learn. Have fun.

At my latest meet, Nov 11th, the vast majority were novice and intermediate lifters. THEY weren't afraid to get their feet wet. Why are you?
