Squat Mistake #8 – sitting down instead of back.

I don't sit back, and I break at the knees. There are some of us who simply find this style more natural and powerful. Therefore I don't consider it a mistake.

Squat Mistake #12 – not using a box squat in one form or another.

Don't think most raw lifters need them. Think once you reach soft limits on progression you can do a lot with frequency and 90% work.

Obviously box squats have value. I simply don't believe not using them is a blanket mistake.

Squat Mistake #18 – not rotating bars – this can allow for same volume and intensity with a reduction in workload.

Armies of big squatters haven't rotated bars. Therefore, not a mistake in my eyes.

These are just my opinions. With all things, research and try them yourself.

I agree with those three you chose. They can be used efectively for sure, but there are some awfully strong Oly lifters that squat big weights and DO NOT use these methods.

I agree with BTB

Never done box squats, dont have any bars to rotate with in the first place. It has worked ok with me, I have hit a few ok squats.

Nothing wrong with any of those as mistakes, but I think a guy who is just learning to lift needs to stick to basics and comfort(as far as correct form go)

That's the most important point in this thread.

Find a comfortable squat stance, get in a groove, work on form, and progress for several years. Don't over-complicate things. Bands, chains, boxes, bars and all that sort of thing has a place, but you can spend years upon years building strength before you may need anything other than just squats.

And have fun.

Sounds as if they assume wide-stance squatting to begin with, in which case sitting back sounds logical and more natural (for myself at least).I guess its the same logic with box squat?? But with a closer stance, it feels easier (at least for me) to break at the knees.

Default Squat Mistakes : article from Elitefts

Found this article on elitefts. Interesting read.

Mistake #1 – thinking it’s not technical and simple.

Mistake #2 – not setting up TIGHT from head to toe.

Mistake #3 – not arching the bar out of the rack.

Mistake #4 – not starting with an arch and ass back.

Mistake #5 – pulling air into your chest and not your belly.

Mistake #6 – looking up instead of driving head and traps into the bar.

Mistake #7 – not spreading the floor and pushing your knees out.

Mistake #8 – sitting down instead of back.

Mistake #9 – moving hips first out of the hole. The head and chest must move back first.

Mistake #10 – not using compensatory acceleration on the concentric phase.

Mistake #11 – looking down when the lift gets hard. When it gets hard, drive head into the bar.

Mistake #12 – not using a box squat in one form or another.

Mistake #13 – not squatting with people stronger than you.

Mistake #14 – thinking there is a huge difference between squat training for raw vs. geared.

Mistake #15 – not having an honest person watching your depth.

Mistake #16 – slacking on training your core.

Mistake #17 – being a pussy that is scared of big weights.

Mistake #18 – not rotating bars – this can allow for same volume and intensity with a reduction in workload.

Mistake #19 - thinking you know it all when you don’t know “squat.”

Mistake #20 – technique is CRITICAL!!! This is how we get beginner – advanced lifters break PRs in 1.5 hours of seminar coaching.

Yeah, I disagree with #12. I never do the box squat, and raw lifters shouldn't in general.
