I got to agree with Faz here. Too much posturing and posing on the Internet. Hitting a PB in your gym, with your music, your weights, when you feel like it is NOT the same as doing it under competition conditions. If you're not getting on the platform, you're pretending.

I don't seek to be confrontational in any way, shape or form (and I respect your lifting a hell of a lot) but do you mean to say that everyone who hasn't competed is a pretender? If so, that would mean the like of me who tries to improve patiently each day is only a pretender and that is not something I can agree with. I think anyone who lifts to better their strength/physique/health deserves respect and they have mine.

(While I hope to compete one day for the experience, I do admit it will be some time off.)

Just looking for clarification

I certainly see where Fazc is coming from and I would say I am a trainee and definitely not a powerlifter. Guys like him and LtL, Steve and dozens more on here do give up time, effort and $ to do what they love and have my respect. It takes courage to go up to that platform and I hope one day to experience it like I said.

And well said Steve. I can only imagine the differences between a gym lift and a comp one. Pressure is high and you don't get much time to make adjustments. As was said before on here: In the gym you lift on your time, in a comp you lift on everyone elses.

I don't mean to speak for Ltl, but I think he's referring to people who don't compete but refer to themselves as Powerlifters or saying it's all the same.

That's all I'm saying. I encourage, help and support competitors and non-competitors every single week on this forum either on the forum or via PM. I do that every single day, whether you compete or not makes NO difference to me.

BUT what I don't like is some random prick coming on to a thread, and trying to diminish my accomplishments and MY effort by saying it's just the same as what he does in the gym, when he ever even gets to the gym.

I don't tread on you or anyone else, so DON'T ****ing tread on me.

I actually found my first competition to be easier than lifting in the gym, just because my lifting load was so freaking high and fast-paced at the time.

Most people say maxing on all three lifts in one day is the toughest part, but I'm used to the crazy environment.

Competition, while in front of three judges, gives validation to the lift. Not the 1/4 squat, bounced bench, or hitched dl.

Yeah Kuyt I meant people calling themselves powerlifters and not competing. It's like saying you're a bodybuilder but never dieting and getting on stage.

I think you can call yourself whatever you like but your point is to those who brag about what they have lifted in their garden shed yet never take the plunge and prove it in a controlled environment right?

Yeah as Ryano said; it's judged so it's not a quarter squat, bounced bench and hitched deadlift.

For me, I honestly don't mind. People can lift in their garages, garden sheds and whatever else makes them happy. I will support and encourage that. But just call it like it is. That's all I'm saying, call it like it is. If you're happy then call it like it is, why pretend it isn't? If it's a garage lift then it's a garage lift, if it's a gym lift then it's a gym lift. Be happy with whatever it is. I'm certainly not going to put anyone down for just lifting in a gym, so I don't expect anyone to put my accomplishments down either.

I don't ****ing like people saying it's the same as a competition lift. ****s me right off.

I totally agree.

Sad part is people don't defend the bodybuilding side but they do the power lifting side. Kind of a double standard there. I know some one will pull the "Book" definition card on me. lol
