Raw Unity 6 Details

Changed to flat foot benching and no knee wraps for non-masters.

Not sure how popular that will be. I hate flat foot benching.

Rum 6 / World Record Breakers will be held January 19 and 20 at the Jackson Recreational Center in Tampa. There will be a few changes in this year's format. We will emphasize Class Competition including Masters. There will be Mens and Open Women, and Mens and Women Masters (50 to 59) & (60 & Up). There will be a Bench Press Competition with limited entries.

There will be awards for the 1st three places in each class. The financial payoff will be for lifters breaking Johnny V's all-time Raw Records.

The Mens and Womens Open must meet the qualifying totals posted on the Raw Unity Web Site.
Raw Unity qualifying totals

Anyone who has lifted in a previous Raw Unity is qualified. Master Lifters must post a raw total in 2012.

There will be some rule changes in the bench. Feet must be FLAT on the floor.

The other change will follow how the all-time Raw Records have been established. Open Lifters may wear only neoprene knee sleeves. approved knee sleeves
Master Lifters may wear knee wraps.

The number of competitors will be limited to 50 per day. Spots will not be saved, the first 50 paid entries will be accepted. There will also be a team competition.

We realize we are making some changes and not everyone will be in agreement. We would look forward to serving any and all lifters.

Entries will be available shortly.

Lifters, sponsors, or anyone wanting to be involved can contact Spero Tshontikidis

(Raw United, Inc @ gmail.com) or bobgaynor@comcast.net.

I also don't see qualifiers for Masters, which is oddly confusing. Last I heard they were going to set masters qualifiers based somehow against current records less whatever, whatever.

Not a fan of lifting without wraps...just my .02

I wonder how current competitors will like the change.

You'll smash it anyway Btb.

From the UK perspective; wraps have never been raw, and feet always have to be planted on the floor. Ultimately I think it will help the credibility of what is already a very exciting event.

I get to lift with wraps as a Master. I didn't mind training without, so I could live jumping back to training without them if need be, but there always is a mental transition for me. Thankfully I don't have to worry about a transition.

Bench, I'll start training with blocks. I'll be ready.

flat footed benching is even dumber than normal benching. I am not a fan of squatting without wraps either.

Hey man, I'm curious as to why you say that. Seriously, I just want to know what the difference is.

When you can bench on your toes, it allows you to arch much harder and gives a more stable platform to bench off of, IMO
