Now I can see how much I misremembered.

As with all TV programmes, consume with caution. It would have been nice to see the isotonic drink manufacturers sitting down at a table with the Oxfors group and thrashing out the research and advertising claims....but that's never gonna happen.

I assume you meant:

One of my favorite pieces of nonsense.

90% of my liquid intake is from coffee (black), or from 1-2 cups of diet caffeine soda per day. 10% comes from milk, OJ, or water. I've lived like this for 2 decades.

Yes. A lot of cold days here in the tundra. A nice hot drink is hard to turn down.

Some of it grew out of my military service, and subsequent years in sales. A lot of 80 hour work weeks.

I can identify with that. I started my research career with a research group full of night birds. Coffee and late nights are the two habits I picked up and never quit.

So what happens when you come off the coffee (assuming you sometimes do)? Is the withdrawal horrific?

Caffeine headache for a day. I've come off several times. Usually if I cut my intake in half, and in half again, by day 4 I am off without a headache.

Never tried to come off intentionally. But there have been days when I have gone with very little or no coffee. I usually have a mild headache, but nothing so bad that I can't grit my teeth and get through the day without much issues.
