Soda and weightlifting

Does soda have any effects on weightlifters? Such as not performing as well, etc.

The question is, not so much whether it affects a weightlifter's performance but what effects it has in general...even if a person still chooses to drink a fizzy beverage, it's good to know what's what; I enjoy a cold can of pop, when I choose to have one, but I'm also aware of the issues of sugar-laden drinks, drinks with artificial sweetners, the carbonation process itself etc.

Mello Yello is the occasional treat. Never tried it before training, probably would make me fart.

Me too.

I just can't understand why anyone thinks fizzy drinks taste good. To me, they all taste like battery acid. Mind you, I can't stand the taste of alcohol either, so maybe my taste buds are wired up differently.
