Default Grams of protein rule

I read that you should follow this rule for grams of protein. Eat one gram for every pound you weight. Is this correct?

It works well if you're a 190 pound off season bodybuilder, but not so much if you're a 135 pound teen.

About .75 to 1 gram of protein per lb of lean body weight should be fine for most trainees.
