Default Breakfast: Satisfying or Appetite Amplifying?

When I eat a big breakfast I feel hungry again in about 3 hours. Not just hungry, hungry...but rather very driven to eat again.

Wondering if any of you experience the same thing after eating a larger breakfast.

Nowadays I'm eating a breakfast of 1000-1200 calories, that usually keeps me going quite well. Usually I can go without food after this for a good 6 hours if needed.

Someone made the comment that the body generally feels hungry when it's used to eating. In todays society of abundant food hunger is more about psychological behaviour patterns than actual hunger.

Perhaps it's the spike that is making the difference. I never eat breakfast so I am sure the insulin spike is working wonders somehow.

I don't think in my case it's psychological. I never feel driven to eat during the day unless I eat a big breakfast.

After a big breakfast, I always feel okay for quite a number of hours; how big is your big breakfast? Curious, really.

If I include some carbs in my breakfast, usualy plain oatmeal, I'm good to go for hours. If I only eat protein and fat, I'll be starving in a very short time. Just the way I'm wired I guess.

I would say a couple of pancakes, milk and some sausage and/or bacon. A lot of protein, fats and carbs.

About once every month I will have a breakfast that is hearty. I will feel full, but around noon I feel driven to eat again. Usually I only get intense desires to eat in the evening.

I'm just over 5 foot (by 2.5", I think) and a big breakfast to me that I've had...can be 3 sausages, 3 rashers of bacon, 3 scrambled eggs, 2 slices of bread, and some orange juice. Maybe you're not having enough as a big breakfast? Just a thought.

LOL

It could just be one of thsoe things whereby more food triggers the desire for more food. There are receptors in the stomach (can't recall their exact name) which are triggered when the stomach is stretched under the volume of the food ingested which normally switches the appetite off...maybe eating a larger meal, stretches the stomach and then as it shrinks back a little, triggers you to want to eat more.

A bit like with some people where eating more often is more of a problem for them. Maybe you're the opposite, and need to avoid the large meals but graze more all the time.

I'm the exact opposite. The more carbs I include, the more likely I am to get hungry again. Fat and protein all the way. I just killed 4 eggs, 3 pieces of bacon, and some cheese.
