Recomp vs Bulk and Cut
But would a recomp work if you're already above your idea bodyweight? Can't lose weight without the caloric deficit, but can't gain muscle with it.
My main goal is strength, but I also want to maintain a reasonable body fat while getting as strong as I can. Using one of the lean body mass calculators I've seen for natural bodybuilders, somebody of my height and frame will be 220lbs and 10%-12% body fat when at maximum lean body mass.
While I understand that strength is a skill and also requires training of the CNS, it seems that maximal strength can only be obtained with maximum musculature.
So, as you can no doubt tell by reading all that, I'm a bit confused on how I should eat and would appreciate any advice.
P.S. Maximum Musculature would be a great name for a bodybuilding superhero.

generally, a caloric surplus is needed, but it's not 100% true.
hormones (your genetic tendencies) make it possible to lose fat and build muscle.
for example, look into the velocity diet...it's accepted to be a short term solution.
Especially when younger, my body type was prone to stay lean and get more muscle at the same time... I was 4-5% BF and gained 19 lbs of muscle in 3 years (ages 16-19). That's really slow progress at that age. However, if you only want to add 5-10 lbs of muscle and lose 5-10 lbs of fat, there should be no rush.
