Default Joint supps - your experiences?

Have you ever taken any supps for joint / connective tissue health, and actually found that they've helped in some way?

I see a number of folks around here take 'em. Is it just "insurance" (which is cool, and I understand that PoV) - in which case, do you rely on solid science, or maybe the words of someone you respect, for your reasoning there? - or again, have you benefited from genuine results?

Really curious about this family of products.

I take glucosamine, chondroitin, fish oil, and flaxseed oil. I can't say whether or not they make a real difference, though. I take the fish and flaxseed oils mainly for the heart benefits, but they are said to help joint health as well. I did a little research (not very much) and settled on these as they are recommended by pretty much everybody. I started taking them the day I started lifting- didn't want to wait until problems started before I took action. Since I started taking them from the beginning I can't say for sure if they are working or not. So far my joints seem healthy.

Your question got me to thinking, so I did a little searching. I found this article that makes some pretty good claims about glucosamine and chondroitin, including that it significantly increases muscle growth. I don't know about that for sure, but I will say this-I trained for years at a time when I was younger and never got even close to the strength I have gained in just the ten months I have been training while taking these two. I don't know if they have something to do with it or not. This isn't a bad read, though- http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/gastelu4.htm

GLC 2000. It works great for me. I start to panic when it gets low lol. Good stuff. I have my mom taking it. It helps her arthritis.

Good info. Thanks.

Full disclosure (because I forgot before) - got talking to a fellow gym-goer the other day, a guy around my age or a bit older, and he recommended a particular "joint complex" supp (Chondroitin, Glucosamine and MSM) that he takes every day. So I looked it up, and did a bit of research. As usual, the results were unclear and in many cases contradictory.

But there might be something to it, as it turns out...

I take them, but I have found that wraps and a slightly higher fat diet have helped reduce inflammation and strains/pains more than anything.

I don't know if they work well, but they are cheap so I use a joint supp as a backup plan.

vita flex 4000, its a glucosamine/msm/chondroitin supp dosed for horses. I got it from a feed store at $32/quart. I take 1-2 tablespoons a day. I've had it a month and a half and still have 3/4 of the bottle left. It works pretty well.

I will second the higher fat diet as well.

Edit: I do not take a horse sized dose of this stuff...

I like the super cissus from USP Labs, they seem to help me out more than the usual glucosamine stuff

I've got some Labrada ElastiJoint that I have used. Glucosamine, Chondroitin, collagen, and MSM. I haven't been very on point with supplementation as of late, and this stuff sucks to drink. I have to mix it with BCAAS or KoolAid to choke it down because of the collagen taste. But I do like it and it seems to make a difference.
