What do you say?

In so far as being in a deficit to cut or surplus to bulk, perhaps, but certainly not for health, especially when age ids factored in. The younger guys can get away with alot more than the older ones.

For me, lifting follows health, period.

I agree with Squatter. It depends on what you are using the calories for. The 150 calories from an 8 oz serving of Dr. Pepper is vastly different than the 150 calories from a piece of fish. The Dr. Pepper is void of nutritional value while the fish gives you far more for the caloric value. I usually hear the "calorie is a calorie" argument from people who want to rationalize their poor food choices. If I had to choose between 2000 calories of Snickers and 2000 calories of meats and veggies, I will choose the latter. I will feel fuller and I won't be puking or worse from all the sugar in the Snickers.

Just my 2 cents.

If you're trying to build or maintain muscle mass and strength, a 2500 calorie diet (for example) consisting of potato chips, soda, and microwave burritos is not equal to a 2500 calorie diet consisting of chicken breast, steak, brown rice and vegetables.
I didn't watch the video btw, so maybe i missed something

To me, calories are calories when I need them most. I'll be damned if I'm going to eat 1,200 calories of Oreo's when steak is also an option. Anyone with half of a brain could tell you that they aren't all equal.

It is sad that people use calories to eat junk and complain about getting fat. A calorie is a calorie just like 1 gram of omega 3 fat is the same as 1 gram of trans fat. This theory doesn't work for anything else in nutrition but it is the motto of the modern diet. So sad...

A calorie was a calorie when I was young.

Now it is much more important than just as an energy packet.

As one person on low income once said, calories first, nutrition afterwards, if that's all you can afford.
