i personally drink no less than 2 gallons a day. but most can get away with a gal a day

No idea. Large amount of milk. Couple cups of coffee. Odd bottle of water.

My 2ps worth;

Drink when you are thirsty. The only time I think you really need to be switched on with water is if you live in a real hot place and or doing alot of perfomance based endurance work. Think most other siuations let your thirst decide.

If your drinking so much you peeing all the time its clear its probably unesscary.

I think the only problem with waiting until your body tells you its thirsty, it's actually a bit too late, we have already started to dehydrate. At least that is what I was taught.

1%-2%, I believe they say it is by that point.

I think that could certainly be true under extreme circumstances, such as working construction in Texas, or walking across the desert. But I just can't see it for most people in temperate climates.

Indeed this is the mantra. I think the term 'too late' suggests that this is actually a problem.

Your thirst is a pretty good measure of when you need to drink. The goal of the day dose not have to be 100% hydrated. You hydration levels will undulate during the day and this is fine and dandy.

The main point is not to overthink this stuff or feel you need to be drinking something every hr etc etc etc.

Again in some situations were rapid water loss is a problem and where you want to maximise endurance performance, you may need to attempt to have optimum hydration at set times.

People used to just drink fluid and eat food, and instinctively know what they were doing...first we counted food and then we started counting fluid...and the even newer kid on the block is counting/distinguishing between non-soluble and soluble fibre and counting both of those as well (for some people)...it just seems to get sillier as the years go on...where did we go so wrong?
