Which do you like better and why? Bent over rows or using a row machine?

Both are almost the same. One is using free weights and the other is using a machine. I usually would do both because both are good for thickening the upper and mid back for sure

Weirdly enough, I actually like doing the cable row machine, as it takes a lot of the pressure off my lower back, which is constantly getting hammered by everything else I do.

I'm the same way, I used to love the low cable row machine. I'd do that for 5 x 10 strict twice a week, usually followed by 5 x 12 on the same machine with rearward shrugs. My upper back was doing very well at the time.

Heavy Bent Rows are fine, but in situations where I'm fresh enough to row heavy I'll often opt to just do more Deadlifts.

Exactly. Usually by the time I think I should do some rows, I've already destroyed myself doing squats/pulls/bench/overhead so sitting down to row sounds like a plan.

I think bent rows are better since it works core. If you use a chest supported row machine you miss that.

Both. I train at home most of the time so Bent over Barbell row is my weapon of choice, but when I do find myself at the gym I cant help but hit em both, if it's there I use it lol.
