Tom Platz Question from Facebook
An interesting question posted by Tom Platz on Facebook:

What would it take to put together a mini-show or event? A show where the competitors emulate bodybuilding 25 years ago?

glwanabe 01-31-2012 01:46 PM

25 yrs still puts us in the late 80's. Shoot for 35yrs ago, and now we are talking something I might watch.

In what way are things massively different now to the 80s?

Not trying to be funny here by the way, genuinely asking.

You'd need to be able to get beginners that had done the routines of that era (as in Glwanabe's post because the 80's is still too recent to be much different) which means they'd need several years of training to start with before a show could really go ahead; unless, of course, there were people already immersed in that style of training without any other style having been used which may be highly unlikely in today's era.

My opinion is that each generation sees the next as too extreme, though they fail to see the hand they played in creating the next level. It's interesting that this question came from Tom Platz, because he was always the extreme bodybuilder of his generation.

This recent picture is of Ronnie Coleman, at a seminar or guest posing event.

He is in that kind of shape right now?

I could be wrong. But that image was posted by someone in Europe claiming it was recent. He could have meant 2009 for all I know...

I know Ronnie was in the hospital recently so it certainly wasn't the last month or two.

He looked like this in 2011, for what it's worth...I can't tell if it's the same size.
